People always fall in love with the person that they think won't interfere with their life the first time they meet.
You think you have your whole life planned out till you unexpectedly meet that one person that doesn't ruin your whole life plans, they just make new ones that turn into better ones.
And here I was, talking about falling in love when I hadn't even had a glimpse of the feeling.
I was supposed to pretend that I was in love with someone even though I don't even know how it felt.
It's like telling a person to kiss someone when they don't even know how to kiss. Like, how am I supposed to do that?
I volunteered to help but now that I think about it, I'm starting to regret it. How could I be so naive?
"Hey, remember. 4 o'clock. It's important stuff."
"Anna, I don't want to hear about it. I honestly think I'm going to back out."
She looked shocked. "Isabella, listen to me," she said. "You can't. You already got into this and you already started. If you back out now, she'll punish you. She might not seem like much but she is fucking crazy."
"I can't do this anymore. I don't know how to go through with this. How can I pretend to fall in love with Nathan? I've never been in love."
"Then wing it. Please. Do this for me. If you back out, I'll be the one to deal with Nathan. Take one for the team," she said, with a serious tone in her voice.
She's never pleaded like this to me before, and I knew how much this meant to her with what happened to her sister and all. "I'll try."
She lit up and hugged me. "Thank you."
The bell rang and we parted to different directions. French was my next period.
That day at school was crazy. I was spacing out in every class. I wasn't thinking straight.
I was unaware of everything and everyone around me. I was thinking to much about the consequences of this stupid game that doesn't improve this stupid little war between populars and geeks.
If anything it worsens it.
I found myself at the school's old building, after school, where the group usually meets. Usually it's at the cafeteria which was where I was standing.
Leila entered through the doors. "Oh, Isabelle. You're already here."
"Yeah. Anna said she was gonna be here but she had to do something first."
She nodded. Leila sat in one of the cafeteria chairs, which were old and rusty. Most of the room lost all its color and there was barely any light.
"Are we the only ones coming today?" I said.
"Yeah. You two are the only ones left to hear the rules," she responded.
I nodded. We waited a while for Anna to arrive but she was taking a little longer than expected. Leila and I stood there in silence until I finally broke the ice. "Leila, why aren't you assigned to someone?"
She was looking at her clock and then looked up to face me. "Well, I'm the president. I need to watch all of you and keep things in order."
"But don't you want to be assigned to someone?" I said.
"No," she said. "Although, there is someone that I hate with my life and would give anything to break his heart."
"Who?"
