It was the year 1909.  It was the time of slaves and cotton fields.  A time that most slaved didn't like to talk about.  But it was one slave that the Town of  Jenkin will always remember. Luther Ross, that was the name his master gave him.

He was one of the lucky slaves, never the less, being a slave was never lucky, Mr. Ross had it quite good.   Mr. Riverdale was one of the wealthiest men in the world.  There was a river that ran through his many acres of different properties, which was filled with silver and gold.  No one knew how that came about, but it sure made him very rich.

Mr. Riverdale was the oldest of four boys.  His parents gave him part of the land as a wedding present, along with ten slaves, to help him run the farm that was on the opposite side of the river.
