Eighteen

"We're just talking babe, come here." Maine told Liam to quickly calm things down. She knows the last thing they need right now is some Dad drama. But unfortunately, it still happened.

"Nah, I think I'll pass." he replied before going out again. Maine quickly got up and followed Liam outside, leaving Alden inside the chapel. "Liam! Babe!" she called and so he stopped and turned. The look on his face broke her heart. Liam was never the kind that gets jealous right away, he's also not the type that shows much of his emotions. But what he has in his eyes, she's certain it's pure pain.

Maine ran towards her boyfriend and gave him a tight hug. She forgot that this is just as hard for him as it is to her. Liam practically treats Charlie as his son, and her child feels the same.

"I'm so sorry." he whispered.

"It's okay babe ... it's my fault." she told him.

Liam hugged her tighter and then he buried his face on her neck. Maine can hear him ... he can hear him crying.

"Charlie will be alright Liam, believe me."

"I hope so Maine. I so fucking hope so."

Alden remained inside the chapel and continued to pray for Charlie's well-being. He's happy that Maine finally admitted the truth but at the same time, he still can't stop worrying. If Charlie goes into coma at the age of 5,  his chances of surviving is very little compared to what a full grown adult has.

He's not ready to lose him, he doesn't want to lose him ... ever. Ten minutes later, he got up from the bench and left the chapel. As soon as he reached the lobby, he saw his Dad carrying two massive bags.

He ran to him and was hugged right away.

"Iho, kumusta ka?" he asked.

"Okay lang po Pa. Si Charlie, hindi pa rin."

"Naku, yung apo ko."

Alden then helped his Dad go to Charlie's room., The minute they got there, it's clear that they are not as welcome as they think they are. Everyone's busy doing their own business that literally no one acknowledged their presence.

"Tito?"  the two turned around and saw Maine looking at them.

"Maine? kumusta si Charlie?"

 "Kakagaling ko lang po sa Doktor niya .... umaayos naman na daw po." she replied with a smile on her face. Feeling overwhelmed and happy, he hugged her right in front of everyone else.

Alden only snapped back to reality after he heard his father cough. He immediately apologized and looked away. Things got awkward for a bit but that all changed  when Liam came. It's obvious in his face that he's quite mad, Alden thought that maybe the two had a fight just a few minutes ago.

The young guy didn't even acknowledged them, he went straight inside the room to check on his phone. "What's wrong with him?" he asked Maine in a whispering manner.

"We had a fight."

"About what?"

"Us."

"Oh."

"Don't worry ... I already told him there's nothing going on. He's just pissed that I told you the truth without confiding in him."

"I should apologize."

"Don't, it's all good."

Maine spent the rest of the day doing what she does bets, taking care of other people. Liam left after lunch to 'clear' his head and rest a bit because he will be the guard for the night.

"Maine, okay na ba kayo ni Alden?" her mom asked her.

"Para po kay Charlie, Ma."

"Handa ka na ba sa magiging pagbabago niyan?"

"Opo."

"Paano kung mawala si Charlie sa'yo?"

"Hindi naman po siguro gagawin ni Alden 'yon." she replied, hoping for the best. Maine had to admit it, Alden helping her bring Charlie to the hospital changed her view on him. Yes, she knows that the pain is still there but at the same time she can't help but be grateful that he helped them despite of how many times she pushed him away.

Slowly, the Alden she used to know is coming back. And Maine hopes that time, he would stay.

A few more hours later, Maine had to leave so she can rest and change her clothes.Alden and his Dad were left in the hospital to look after Charlie. He thought this is his chance to start his role as the father but the thing is, Liam is there too.

"Anong oras siya aalis?" his Dad asked him.

"Di ko po alam eh." he answered.

A few more minutes after, Liam walked out of the room and approached them. Alden gulped, thinking that he's looking for trouble or any of familiar sort.

"Alden?"

"What?"

"I have to buy something, can you look after him?"

"Sure."

Liam then walked away and left the two behind. "Sa tingin ko naman okay na siya." his Dad told him.

"Sana po, Pa. ayoko naman na kunin na lang yung papael niya sa buhay ni Charlie. Alam nung bata si Liam ang ama."

"Edi anong gagawin mo niyan? Napa-amo mo na ulit si Maine ... tapos sigurado ako ... mas magiging madalas ang bonding niyo ni Charlie pagkalabas niya dito. Alden ... teka nga .... mahal mo pa siya di ba?"

"Opo naman ..."

"Mahirap ang sitwasyon niyo , sana maayos na lahat yan."

"Sana nga po." he replied before letting out a sigh. All he wants right now is to make sure that his son and his ex-girlfriend will be always safe.

"Isa pang tanong Alden ..."

"Ano po yun, Pa?"

"Paano kung yung tanging paraan para mabawi mo si Charlie at Maine eh agawin sila kay Liam. Magagwa mo pa ba yun?"

"Maine?"

"Po?" she asked, turning around to face her mother.

"Handa ka na ba na papasukin ulit si Alden sa buhay mo?"

"Opo." she answered. Maine already made her decision, if his presence will fix their issues then she will let him stay.

"Eh sa puso mo?"

"Ma naman."

"I'm serious Maine. Si Liam ang boyfriend mo ngayon ... mahal mo naman siya di ba?"

"Sobra po."

"Eh si Alden ... Maine .... umamin ka nga sa akin .... kahit katiting lang .... may nararamdaman ka pa ba sa kaniya?"
