"It's madness to always be sitting around in sadness, or when you could be learning these steps to gladness. You'll be happy when you can do just six or seven"
Three months later
Violet's POV
I've just walked into my new apartment, which is now officially mine. Sarah left for France three days ago, and I saw her off at the airport.
After she left I had finished loading some of our small things into a rental car.I wasn't moving far, but I had still sold most of our furniture. I didn't want it around without Sarah to share it with. It felt... wrong.
I'm in an apartment complex two buildings away from Dan's. I park my car at the front of the building when I see Dan walking down the street. I wave to him.
He plants a gentle kiss on top of me head before saying hello.
"I'm trying to figure out how to carry my stuff up the steps," I tell him, and he looks to the minivan I rented.
The seats are down and jam packed with my stuff.
"Didn't bring a lot, did you?" He asks me with a smile. I shrug as he makes his way to the trunk of the car.
He pulls out a box, which contains my large bookshelf which I had to take apart so I could bring it with me.
"Let's go," Dan says making his way into my new apartment building. I roll my eyes and grab a box of my own.
After Dan and I have carried all the boxes upstairs and into my room, I was trying to figure out what was what.
Dan had sat himself in the floor with a screwdriver, trying to put together the bookshelf he slid out of the box. I was in the process of looking around.
The kitchen was behind the living room, like in our old apartment. My new apartment was still two bedroom, but still much smaller than the old one.
To the right there was a narrow hallway and when it opened up again. There sat a bathroom, the master bedroom to the right, and a smaller bedroom to the left.
The white walls are already giving me a headache, and I'm thankful that the new rent agreement also allows me to paint the walls, as long as I paint them white again if I decide to move.
"Are you going to help? I mean this is your furniture," Dan jokes, who has finished the first two shelves.
"Three more shelves to go," I tell him. "We'll be here all night if you keep going at that rate.
I start putting together one of the four stools I had brought with me, planning to put them in front of the breakfast bar.
Dan has finally finished the tall bookshelf by the time I finished the third stool.
He pulls out the tv stand I had brought with me.
"Did you even bring a tv?" He asks me.
"No," I tell him with a stupid smile. "But I'll buy one eventually." He rolls his eyes at me while he puts together the tv stand.
Dan has stayed helping me until eleven at night. We had finished putting together almost everything, I just had to move most of it to the right spots.
"Do you even have a mattress?" Dan asks me, when I told him he could go home.
"I didn't bring one," I say. We had put together the bed, I just didn't have the mattress to go with of it.
"Come stay with us, you can have my room, I'll sleep in the couch," he offers. I blush, embarrassed, though I don't know why.
I keep saying I'll be fine and he keeps saying that I don't even have a couch, and eventually I realize he's not going to give up, so I grab a pair of sweatpants, a tank top, and sweater, then follow him to his apartment.
Phil greets me when I walk into the living room, I say hello and try to figure out which anime he is watching. I walk into their bathroom, despite the stupid poster on the door.
I throw on my sweat pants and tank top, then throw the sweater on overtop of it, making sure it hides my entire arm.
I greet them back in the living room. Phil is the first to ask why I'm wearing a sweater to bed.
"I'm just a little cold," I say with a smile.
"I can turn a heater on," he tells me, motioning to a space heater. I shake my head quickly, trying not to look desperate to keep on my sweater.
"Hey," Dan says gently. "Are you okay?" He grabs my wrist and I wince ever to slightly. I pray he doesn't notice but he did.
He lets go quickly, his eyes look scared. He looks down at my wrist and asks I'm I'm hurt.
I shake my head and put on a smile, before he questions further or decides to take a closer look I wrap my arms around him and kiss his cheek.
I see Phil roll his eyes on the couch and when I look back at Dan's face I know he won't question it any further.
I walk over to the couch and sit next to Phil, now knowing he's watching the devil as a part timer.
Dan sits down next to me and I rest my head on his shoulder. Phil went off to his own room around one am, and Dan and I turn in criminal minds.
"Do we really want to watch this in the middle of the night?" Dan asks me with a smile.
"Please, don't be such a wimp, I could watch an entire season at midnight."
"Impossible," he tells me.
"Hypothetically," I add with a smile, looking up at him.
At three am I tell him I'm fine sleeping on the couch and he insists I sleep in the bedroom since I'm the guest. Eventually it ends up with him tickling me until I agree and waking Phil up the process.
When I am safely inside the room alone, I take off the sweater letting my arms breath.
I plug my phone into an outlet next to the bed and throw the blankets over me. Laying here now, I'm sure if it.
I'm falling in love with Dan Howell.
And this thought is terrifying. Because he could never love a girl like me.
