One Last Time

I sighed as I woke up that morning. This was it. Today was the day. The day I would be leaving my father. Forever.

I never really liked this home. I never really liked him. And I was glad to leave.

I looked over from my futon and grabbed my phone off the other side. I scrolled through my contacts, wanting to call Cameron to see if he was as ready as I was, and clicked on his name anxiously.

Ring. Ring. Ri-

"Hello?" I heard a raspy voice answer my call.

"Yeah... you ready?"

"Yeah. You?"

"Always."

"Let's go over the plan one more time. Okay?"

"Sure."

-------

That night, I quickly grabbed three pre-smahed pills from the drug cabinet together, and put it in his already opened beer. He was in the bathroom, so I only had up to a few minutes.

The plan was to put some pills in both of our parents drinks, wait till they were asleep, then make for our escapes. It was simple, but there were a lot of things that could go wrong.

For one, my dad would probably throw the beer at me before he even had a chance to drink out of it. And second, I could go to jail. It's illegal to drug someone like that. Even if it's for a good cause.

"What're you doing?" I hear my father say as I was quickly but quietly running away.
He must of left the bathroom without me realizing.

"Uh," I racked my brain for an excuse, "I was just looking for my phone." Perfect.

"What're you talking about? It's in your hand." He said suspiciously.

"Oh." I am so stupid. "Well, you know me! Dumb old Taylor!" I said, hoping he would buy it.

He eyed me in a way that told me he did nothing of the sort, "Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll be keeping an eye on you."

"Right." I left hurriedly, not wanting anymore questions.

As if it was another normal, boring day, I left the house and decided to go to my safe place.

It was a particularly sunny day, perfect for where I was going.

I went on the road with my dad's car, and within minutes I was on the expressway. I decided to turn on some music.

Centuries by Fall Out Boy came on, and I simultaneously started humming along.

Soon, I got there, to my safe place. I turned off the radio, and then the engine as well. I got of the car with my shades on.

There it was. My safeplace. It was a type of cliff, I guess. With no types of plants, it was kinda like an orange stone. More like the Grand Canyon I suppose. Whatever it was, it took away my fears effortlessly.

And my stone was there, too. Whenever I came here, I would always just sit on that stone, and think. About anything, really. About my mom, about my dad, my anxiety. This place was just like therapy. It made me think.

I've never told anyone about this place. I fear that if I ever did, it wouldn't mean anything to me anymore. It would lose its purpose.

So, there I sat, just thinking about life. Only for a while, to make sure that my dad was completely asleep.

On the drive back, I picked up a few essentials for our bust trip, just like in the plan.

Snacks, drinks, blankets, plastic and reusable cups for... special needs.
