A cloud of dust filled the room. I yelled extremely loud when I felt fifty tons of bricks on my lower half.
"Ahhhhh! What the hell? Oh.. my god. Please help me!"
"He..lp me. Help me!" I said. Noah came and dragged me out of the chaos. "I... can't feel anything."
"Dont you worry, Mr. Green is on his way!"
"You're crazy," I said.
"Crazy is my middle name. And, oh my god. I am astonished how you are still alive."
"What the... where are my legs?!" I said.
"Well there are definitely not on your person. They're probably pinned to the rock."
"Shut... up!" I yelled. I looked to my stomach, which I saw my legs were not attached and blood was leaking out everywhere.
"I got you, girl. I got your back." I saw light coming into my eyes as we went outside. Bombs and explosions were occuring and blowing the town's landscape and houses. The blue sky was tinted gray with the smoke from the fires.
An aircraft flew above me, crashing just about three acres away from us. Noah kept dragging me as I blacked out. The last thing I saw was Noah's face. I mostly saw his scar that ran diagnally from the top to the bottom of his face. Noah was bleeding too. He was bleeding everywhere. So was I.
My eyes opened slowly, letting light enter slightly. I heard weird noises coming from my legs and stomach. It made a very weird sound that echoed when it got hit. I took a glance at Noah for a second. He had goggles, a white coat, and black pants. His hair was neatly in a combover and he looked younger than before. He looked handsome. He didn't look like Luke though. He was someone else.
I went back to sleep quietly as Noah worked and worked. I opened my eyes like before, and I heard noises coming from my bed. I felt a big tube inside of my throat. I coughed a little, and he looked in my direction. I kept coughing. The front part of the bed lifted up, and so did I. I sat straight, and he came quickly to me. He pulled the plastic transparent tube slowly until it was completely out. I exhaled a lot of air, coughed, and was tired for a few minutes. I then talked.
"Move.. slowly. Don't do any harsh movements. You lost a lot of blood," he said.
"Where am I?"
"You're in my lab, where I worked a decade ago. Wow, you must be starving. Let me get you some breakfast," he said. He walked fast to the kitchen, taking the pan handle and tilting it, so the scrambled eggs could slide off into the plate. Next, he took an orange juice carton from the fridge. He opened it from the top and poured some orange juice into a blue-tinted glass cup. He took the plate and the cup, and he put them on the bed. The plate was sitting on my lap, and the cup was on the left side of my right leg.
"Thank you," I said.
"Don't mention it. You need energy to go on with your day."
"Yeah, thanks. Can I ask you a question?" I said.
"Um sure, go right ahead," he said.
"How long have I been out?" His face looked worried.
"You...., um, you have been asleep for a month. You had a mini coma since the lost of blood damaged a bit of your brain. Until now."
"Oh, thanks for everything," I said.
"That was the third thanks. That means you mean it. You're welcome," he said. His face lit up like he forgot to tell me something. "I want to tell you about your legs. While you were in a coma, I gave you an upgrade to your legs. Look."
I put the plate aside, and I took the blanket off. My legs were there! They were just not human flesh though, they looked metallic.
"What are they?" I questioned.
"They are.... robotic legs. I used my engineering skills, and I also used my amazing mind to create a masterpiece. You should be glad you are still alive. You almost died several times. The bombs, the airship, the roof, and the mini coma almost killed you. I bet there are more I don't know about, huh?" he said. I looked to the other side, signalizing him that he was right.
He started to walk around the room to a weird looking machine. "You're in The Fallen, people in those type of groups usually end up in near-death occurrences all the time. Town folks just wait for the groups to kill them, you know? The Fallen is not a good group. Not anymore. The Fallen was created to give the refugees of other teams another team that everybody could understand each other and nobody was the leader. Everyone knew Luke was the leader, but he thought otherwise. And now, it is the deadliest team in the history of the world. Think about it. A team with a combination of people from different teams who had the skills and the secrets of the other teams. Scary, huh? The Fallen is the main weapon for The Shadow now," he said.
"I never thought of it that way. I also want to say something. I know you lied at the prison. About your family and Luke Spartan. He told me he didn't have a brother, and if he did, he would be demigod." A feeling shocked Noah from his core to the rest of his body.
"You.... dare say that to my face. Luke was my brother, and he will always be!" he yelled. The light hanging from the ceiling flickered.
"He wasn't your brother! He was a friend! He was my boyfriend! And I lost him when I thought I could still save him, but I couldn't." He stopped and looked down. He stood up and came closer to the bed. He sat on the edge of the bed and began talking.
"You wanna talk about my life? Okay. My name is Frederick Verman, but I changed it to Noah Green lately. I know what I am. I'm crazy. Crazy is my middle name. Not literally, but I feel it is. I'm crazy for love. I'm crazy for.... perfection. The perfection of the human being. You can hate me for the rest of my life, or you can take in what I'm going to say, and help me get to The Barren Land. I know it is a dangerous place. It can make you forget who you are or everything you wished for, and the support of the Gods cannot reach there. But it is the only way to kill The Shadow, and end The Rejection Wars. Do you agree to hear my words and come with me to The Barren Land, or rot in this place where you see the end of it all?"
I took a big breath, closed my eyes, and said yes. Even though he was crazy, he was the only person I could trust.
"Okay, here it goes."
