Frostheart gasped as Briarnose halted and looked around. "We're here." He murmured. Frostheart's breathing quickened as Brianose padded into the entrance to his camp.
"Are you sure this'll work? Do you even have a plan!?" She asked, full of worry. Briarnose nodded, not saying anything. They walked into the camp and Briarnose began padding straight forward. Immediately, cats began noticing Briarnose carrying a non-OutClan she-cat through their camp. Frostheart spotted Maplepaw right away, sharing a frog with whom she believed was Jaypaw, a tortoiseshell tom. Looking over her shoulder at the commotion, her eyes widened. Leaving the other apprentice, she bounded up to them and kept pace with Briarnose.
"What happened?" She squealed, her pawsteps having a spring to them.
"We were attached by a badger." Briarnose explained, not breaking his gaze from ahead.
Maplepaw nodded. "But why did you bring her to our territory?"
Briarnose snorted. "Because it was closer." He began taking longer strides, arriving outside of what looked like the medicine den.
"Get Lionpelt and Cloudstreak." Briarnose stated, Maplepaw bounding into the den as the tom followed after. A golden tabby looked up from the back of the den working on a white she-cat.
Coldflight.
"Briarnose? What happened?" He questioned. "And why do you have another Clan cat with you?"
Briarnose nudged Frostheart's cheek and carefully crouched down. "Lionpelt, there was a badger on the border and it chased her into our territory. It gave her a nasty wound on her belly so I fought it off." He explained perfectly, not even flinching as he told a different story. "She wouldn't have made it to her own territory, with or without my help." He was so convincing. Lionpelt rasied a skeptic brow. Frostheart blinked groggily as Briarnose carefully slid her off his back, exposing her deep cut belly. Lionpelt gasped in shock.
"Oh great StarClan, that is deep!" He turned and yowled at the back of the den. "Cloudstreak, cobwebs!" A white she-cat came bouding around the corner with a bundle of cobwebs in her jaws. She stopped and placed the bundle at Lionpelt's paws. "Thank you. Now grab some marigold, horsetail, comfry root and more cobwebs."
Briarnose looked at Frostheart. "Do you hurt?" He asked.
She growled. "What do you think? It hurts just to talk." She exclaimed.
"Then don't talk." He said simply. "Lionpelt, she needs something for pain." Briarnose explained to the tom.
He nodded and padded off. Walking back, he nudged a poppy seed towards Frostheart. "Eat this." He ordered. She nodded stiffly and licked up the black seed. Swallowing, she laid her head back down and closed her eyes but flicked them open as another cat barged it's way into the den.
Thistlestar.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Boomed the leader. "Blossomtail told me Briarnose had brought a warrior from LightClan into our camp so I had to see for myself, and I really didn't think you would allow this Lionpelt." He said savagely.
Lionpelt snorted. "She has deep wounds, Thistlestar. She wouldn't have made it to her own camp." He explained.
Thistlestar swept his tail from side to side angrily. "Let her die for all I care! We don't need LightClan thinking we're weak for healing one of their own."
Lionpelt sighed and finally looked Thistlestar in the eyes. "That's not weakness Thistlestar." He said quietly. "If anything, its helping another Clan yes, but it shows strength that we're willing to help another Clan."
"Who cares?" He growled.
"They will."
"That is not my concern!"
"Thistlestar . . ."
Their arguing voices faded as Frostheart drifted into a weary sleep.Waking to the sounds of the forest, Frostheart opened her eyes to see the ground moving below her. She gasped and raised her head. She was being carried by cats from OutClan, towards her territory. She felt herself slipping and let out a yelp. But instead of falling onto the hard ground, she felt a shoulder hoisting her back up to safety. Glancing down, she saw Maplepaw, Briarnose, Lionpelt and Cloudstreak.
"Your finally awake." Lionpelt said kindly. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine." Croaked Frostheart.
"Good, good." The golden tabby replied. "We're almost at your camp. We'll explain to Ashstar what happened and your Clan will take it from there." He explained.
"Alright, sounds good." Frostheart rasped and laid her head back down. Soon enough, they reached the entrance to LightClan and were stopped by Darkface.
"Halt! Who goes there?" He asked sternly. He glanced up at Frostheart. "Frostheart, what happened to you? Did they do this?" He growled, his claws sliding out.
"No. I was attacked by a badger near the border with Briarnose-" she cut herself off. Darkface narrowed his eyes, his claws still unsheathed. She felt Briarnose's fur fluff up in alarm. "U-um, Briarnose was by the border when I was attacked and took me to his camp."
Darkface snarled. "And why would he do that?"
"Um, -"
"Just because we're in different Clans, doesn't mean we won't save another struggling cat."
Cloudstreak said suddenly, giving Darkface a glare. He huffed and stepped aside. "Proceed, but be aware that I will lead you to camp, followed by another LightClan cat." He warned, following after the OutClan cats carrying the LightClan cat carefully on their backs.
Immediately, cats from Frosthearts Clan noticed her wounded state and cut off their conversations. They stared as the OutClan cats strutted through the territory without even a second glance. Darkface caught Smokehearts gaze and nodded him over. He dipped his head and padded to his side and began whispering to him in a hushed voice. Finally, Smokeheart padded away towards Ashstars den. The female leader immediately appeared out of her den and approached the OutClan cats.
"What are you doing here?" She asked calmly, sitting down and wrapping her tail around her paws.
Lionpelt spoke gently. "Frostheart was attacked by a badger close to the border and got chased over. Luckily, Briarnose was nearby and finished it off, then he took Frostheart to our camp. Cloudstreak and I did as much as we could and now we're returning her to you." He explained.
Ashstar raised her chin. "Thank you, Lionpelt, I appreciate the gesture. You're free to leave in peace." She said. The OutClan cats nodded.
As they began to crouch down to distribute Frostheart to the ground, Briarnose halted. "Ashstar, it would be my pleasure to see to it that Frostheart gets to the medicine cat den safely." He offered.
Ashstars eyebrows raised. "Um, thank you Briarnose, but I think our warriors can handle it."
He dipped his head. "Please, it's the least I could do to see if she survives after the attack."
Ashstar's eyes were filled with recognition and she flicked her ears. "Very well, go ahead." She faced the cats the had made a circle around her. "LightClan cats disband, let the OutClan cat deliver Frostheart to the medicine den, and the others may leave." She instructed then padded off with Smokeheart trailing after her. Briarnose nodded to Maplepaw and the other cats then hoisted Frostheart onto his back alone and strutted towards the center of their camp.
"Where's your Clan's medicine cat den?" He asked, whispering.
Frostheart raised her head and looked around. "To your right." She rasped. He nodded and padded on. As the suns rays were quenched from the ceiling of the den, Rainspot looked up from sorting leaves.
"Thank you Briarnose, for taking Frostheart to my den." She dipped her head. She nodded to the left. "There's an empty nest, go ahead and place her there." Briarnose abliged and carefully crouched down, Frostheart sliding off his back and into the nest neatly.
"Thank you, Briarnose." She croaked. "I hope I'll see you again."
"Don't say that!" He whispered fiercely. He glanced over his shoulder then touched his nose to hers. "Feel better, I gotta go or you'll Clan will get the wrong idea." With that, he bounced up and walked hurriedly out of the den, dipping his head to Splotchwing as he walked out of the den. Frostheart flicked her ears as the feeling of being watched creeped into her skin, but shook it off. Of course she was being watched, by Rainspot! But as she looked up, she froze in place as she saw the amber eyes of her leader, searing Frostheart's pelt with her gaze. Blinking, she drifted into a weary sleep with Ashstar being the last thing on her mind.Frostheart blinked open her eyes as she heard cats yowling in battle. Jumping awake, she slowly hefted herself to her paws, careful not to reopen her wounds. Glancing outside of the den, she saw cats clawing and snarling at each other. We're being attacked! By ... OutClan?
She didn't recognize any of the cats fighting and caterwauling, but then she laid eyes on a brown tabby pelt. She backed up a step. No, it can't be.
It was Sparkclaw! She took more steps behind her as she spotted Mousepelt and hid in the medicine den. She crouched down and cowered in the nest as yowls continued to split the air, putting her forepaws over her ears. "We're being attacked by Massacre's Clan!" She gasped. "His threats have been carried out." She shuddered, trying to get her paws under her. "I need to tell Ashstar!"
