"Are you gonna be okay?" I ask Jake as we are standing on my front steps. Benny is still inside watching the last ten minutes of his current episode of Tom and Jerry. "Is it safe to go back to him? What if he's mad that you left, you didn't tell him where you were going and you stayed over night?"
Jake laughs trying to calm me down, "Mia it will all be fine. Dad will probably have gone out after the fight and got drunk and forgotten all about us."
"Jake,"
"Mia honestly it's okay."
"If there's anything I can do, even later when I'm at Holly's I don't care, I'll leave."
"And deprive you of your fun girls night you've been so looking forward to," he says while laughing, "How could I be so cruel!"
"Ha ha ha very funny." I stick my tongue out at him, "But seriously, I'm here if you need me."
"Mia you've already done enough to help us. Plus we spend so much time together, it will probably be good for you to have some other company."
"Oh I'm glad you mentioned that," I tease, "because I'm getting sick of you."
"Sick of me yeah?" Jake grabs my waist and spins me around in a circle.
"Jake," I scream, laughing, "I'm gonna be sick, stop, Jake."
He puts me down and holds my hands until I'm steady, but then doesn't let go.
"Thank you for everything you've done Nosey."
"Well I guess your welcome Idoit." A smile spreads across my face.
"Do I get a goodbye kiss?" He asks cheekily, pointing to his cheek.
I roll my eyes but rise up onto my toes and go to kiss him on his cheek. Just as my lips are about to make contact with his cheek, he moves his head quickly, the oldest trick in the book, so that our lips meet. I down brake away. I let him kiss me, I kiss him back.
"Ehhhhhh!" A little voice says behind us making us pull apart.
"You ready little man?" Jake asks, still holding my hand.
"So you do like Mia?" Benny says, acting like he's just solved a mystery or uncovered some important information at a court case.
"Shhhh Benny, we can't have Mia finding out." He says acting like it's a massive secret.
Benny grabs Jake's arm and pulls him down to his level. He tries to whisper but I hear what he says, "I'll keep your secret."
