Chapter Ten: Shadowy saviour
Muhammed
I look over to my phone on my bedside table, it is three in the afternoon. Today is Wednesday meaning I have nothing to do, other than Shadow business. I don't mind helping Michael with his double life, he was a hopeless vigilante when I first met him.
Three and a half years ago
I limp down the street and duck into an alleyway, usually Wolfcrest is crawling with thieves and murderers but it is the middle of the day so I should be relatively safe. I lean against the cold wall using it to push forward, I glance behind me to check if they are still following me. The alleyway leads into a small courtyard like area. An apartment building wraps around the courtyard, the courtyard is filled with random shrubbery and a clothes line without any clothes on it. Only one entrance which also happens to be the only exit. If they find me here I am trapped, I guess I just have to wait and hope they do not look in the alleyway I ducked into.
The five men run down the alleyway, into the courtyard. They have already beat me to a pulp and now they have come to finish me. Note to self, pot dealers aren't the most friendly of people. Instead of cornering me, they choose to surround me. Unwise choice by them, cornering me means they don't have to spread out as much. Now they have surrounded me, they have gaps between them meaning I can squeeze between two of them and run.
I go to run but the dealer shoves me, his security pick me up and start beating me. I look up and see a weird shadow, it jumps off of the bottom of the fire escape landing on the dealer. It isn't a shadow, it is something in a black hoodie. It grabs the leg of one of the dealers security member, it pulls the man making him fall over. It then stands up, punches another member in the face making him fall over. Now that it is upright I can see it's face, I can see it is a guy, maybe fourteen or fifteen. He might be younger, or just really short for his age. He then grabs another guy and throws him at another one, making them stumble over each other. They all run away, scattering down the alleyway.
He looks at me funnily before saying,"You a'ight?"
"Not really but I will be." I answer, panting before coughing up some blood.
"Why were those guys trying to kill you?"
"Why did you stop them? None of your business, kid."
"I stopped them because the streets are filled with crime and I want to stop the criminals."
"What if we work together? With my brains and your... Your," I say while gesturing around, referring to what just happened.
"I do need some help stopping these weirdos attacking random citizens. Seriously though, why the hell are they attacking you?"
"Fine, I'll tell you. I'm kind of highly strung because my cousin is teaching me how to hack things like police data bases or stores and I don't think I covered my tracks that well. I wanted to try some marijuana, you know to relax. I've never done it before and I swear I won't do it again."
"Good. I'm Michael by the way." Michael says before running away. I limp out into the street and go to an abandoned house that I hideout in. I go over to the first aid kit I have hidden under the couch. I start to trying my best to heal myself, it doesn't really work that well.
"Hello. This the Bat-cave?" I hear a voice whisper in my ear. I jump up and almost hit the ceiling.
"Shit, Michael. You scared the hell out of me. This is my hide out, to get away from everything. How did you even find me?"
"What do you think? I followed you, of course." Michael says before walking out the door.
"Wait! This is going to be your new training centre, if we are going to work together." I tell him before he leaves. We then continue to discuss our plan, train until he is ready then we find a crime and work from there.
