I found my phone laying on the coffee table where I had left it with 3 new texts from Jye.
*Where are you?*
*Im at your house Bree answer your fucking phone*
*If you're with him I swear ill fucking kill him*
I wanted to call Harry. I wanted to warn him. I wanted to tell him that Jye could bust into that cafe any minute fuming. That he could pull him over the counter and beat him unconscious.
But I didn't have his number. I didn't have his bloody number.
What was I supposed to do now? Sit back and wait for Harry to come home with a broken nose and a bloody eye? Of course I couldn't go to the cafe because I didn't know where I was. His neighborhood was foreign to me and there was no way I would know how to get there. Even if I did, walking wasn't going to be an option in this weather. It was pelting down outside now and I could hear the wind howling through the brick walls.
I decided to text Jye back. To distract him.
What other option did I have? I was used to Jye's assault. If anyone was going to face his abuse it was going to be me. Harry hasn't done anything wrong, it's my fault he got dragged into this in the first place.
*I'm at a friends house. If I give you the directions can you pick me up?*
Jye didn't know I had friends, I didn't, ever since he came around. I was hoping he would believe me and he would come for me instead of going in search of Harry.
----------
I couldn't sit still. I've been waiting for almost half an hour for Jye to text me back and he still hasn't. What else could he be doing? The thoughts scared me.
I paced back and forth, continuously glancing down at my phone, hoping that he would text back or call. I thought I was going to go crazy. Images of Harry unconscious or bloody or bruised at Jye's feet kept floating through my mind.
When I'd had enough, I called him. I pressed the phone to my ear and listened as it rang.
It went to voicemail after the first two rings meaning that he'd ignored the call.
Why was he ignoring my call?
He wanted me to come home and now he was ignoring me? He was busy and I couldn't stand to think why.
I tried again. I wasn't going to let anything happen to him. This time, it surprised me when he picked up.
"What?" He barked through the phone.
"Jye! Where are you? You didn't reply to me."
"I'm at the bar, where else would I be?" His voice was slurred and I could tell he was drunk.
"You're drunk aren't you?"
"No."
"Geez, yes you are."
"Where are you, Bree? Come, come home." His sentences were broken, the alcohol causing him to stumble over his words.
"I'm not coming home Jye."
"What? Fuck, why?"
"I don't have to tell you why because you bloody well know," I argued.
"Look, I only punched that guy because he deserved it! I see him staring at you every time you walk into my apartment and I'm fucking sick of it!"
I was about to argue about how I didn't even know the guy when I heard a small voice on his end.
"Keep it down would you."
I narrowed my eyebrows. "Who was that?" I demanded.
"Uh, no one," he groaned.
I heard muffled voices, one belonging to Jye and another that I couldn't quite work out. It was high pitched and slightly annoying, leading me on to believe that it wasn't one of his mates that he was hanging out with.
"You're with a girl aren't you?"
He hesitated, his voice dragging out as he decided how to respond.
"Answer me Jye!" It was as if our roles had been reversed.
This was the perfect way for an excuse to stay away from him. It gave me a reason to avoid him with him knowing that it was his fault. It gave me a reason to be even more mad at him.
"She's just a friend-"
"You lied to me, you aren't even at the bar are you?" I know him too well.
His hesitation was all I need to know that I was right.
"And you expect me to come home? Fuck off Jye!"
"It isn't like that. Just let me explain."
"No, it's exactly like that."
"Bree-"
I hung up the phone before he could say anymore.
I can't say I'm upset, I'm not. At all. I was happy even. Relieved.
I've been waiting for him to do something stupid like this since the day is little game started. It's the perfect way for me to get away from him without him coming back after me. At least I'll have an excuse to use against him for running.
At least now I knew that Harry was okay. Jye hadn't tried to go after him, instead he'd drunk away his problems and taken a girl back to his apartment to replace me for the night.
I never thought I'd say, but for once, I was happy a guy was cheating on me.
