marks POV. ;optimistic:

he is so damn pretty.
with his adorable green hair and always grumpy expression he's one of the sweetest things i've ever laid eyes on.
of course i'm talking about green bean.
i can tell the nickname annoys him, he always does that precious little huff of annoyance whenever i call him it, so naturally, i make sure to say the nickname as much as i can.
i'll admit, he stole a bit of my spark in the coffee shop the other day, but i really am determined to get him more interested in me this time. he's always intrigued me, with his strong opinions and points he'd make in class, how he always seemingly was done with everyone and everything. it really is about time i pay him more attention.
so, on a glorious monday lunch hour, i thought it was the perfect time to bug him.
i plop down next to him, grinning slyly. "heya, green bean."
he shoots me a glare, and i think my heart melted.
he's so cute.
i continue my attempt at conversation. "so- what's someone as interesting as you sitting at a table alone?"
unamused, he raised an eyebrow. "i'm waiting for felix. now if you could please-"
"kjellberg?" i ask, leaning in so i can hear him better over the large chatter of the lunchroom.
he leans away slightly. "uh- yeah. can you- leave, please?"
i'm about to make some cocky remark about how i think he actually wants me to stay, but something stops me when i see his hand, fingers tightly wadded together in form of a fist.
and i immediately remember a conversation wade and i had awhile back.

"what do you know about that jack guy? you know, the one who just dyed his hair green?"wade furrows his eyebrows in thought, trying to remember who mark was talking about. his eyes lit up when he realized.
"oh yeah! mcloughlin? cool guy, strong personality, but he's a major pessimist, i think. he's got slight anger issues too, nothing too bad. it's not like he'll hit you or anything, you can just kinda piss him off or make him lose his patience pretty easily."
mark bit his lip, nodding lightly. "thanks, got it."
wade took a sip of his water bottle. "why do you ask?"
mark grins, showing off his pearly white teeth. "just curious."

i cleared my throat. jack really was trying his best not to get mad, and i appreciated it. "well, i guess i'll go. see you in english." i wink, standing up and walking back across the lunchroom towards my regular table.
jack and i are in the same english class, which is right after lunch, and he's only a seat ahead of me. this gives me the excuse of 'dropping' my pencil, and i politely ask him to pick it up and hand it to me. he gets pretty annoyed if i do it too much, so naturally i do it more.
but that's besides the point.
mrs. schuyler clapped her hands loudly to grab our attention, smiling as she did so. "hello everyone. i'm sure you enjoyed lunch and speaking with your friends, but now it's time to work. today, we have a new partner project!"
teachers pets perked up, some kids audibly groaned and complained quietly. mark just smiled contentedly.
he loved english.
mrs. schuyler continued. "so- this assignment gets into the subject of world problems. anyone wanna give me some examples?"
a kid wearing a pastel blue sweater and white skinny jeans with a flower crown raised his hand quickly. i rolled my eyes lightly when i realized who it was.
dan howell. sweet guy, major teachers pet. also a total powerbottom. trust me, i would know.
"yes, dan?" mrs. schuyler smiled expectantly.
"racism?" he answered, the reply sounding more like a question.
"indeed. who else?"
a pretty girl with long dark hair raised her hand next.
"marzia?"
"poverty?"
mrs. schuyler nodded. "for sure. can i get another?"
a cute kid with rather emo brown hair and giant eyes raised his hand.
"calvin?"
"uh- s-sexism?"
mrs. schuyler continued to smile. "that's a good one. can i have one more?"
the class fell silent, and i couldn't help but roll my eyes in annoyance. there are so many problems all around the world and they can only think of is three before burning out?
i'm about to raise my hand when to my surprise, mrs. schuyler was calling on someone else.
"jack?"
"homophobes." he answered sounding rather bored, and i could honestly imagine his facial expression perfectly. tired eyes, resting his elbow on the table and propping his head up with his arm, his hand curled into a fist, holding up his chin. i smiled to myself.
"definitely. now- most of these problems have been around way before anyone can even remember, and it truly is a shame they still aren't fixed. but hey- i guess the natural order decides which way it wants to go itself." mrs. schuyler shrugged, seemingly making eye contact with everyone in the room.
"for this project, you and your partner will pick a world problem- each and every single groups problem must be different. you will write a speech that must be at least four minutes long, and i'd also like a poster with a few illustrations surrounding your topic. remember that i am looking for originality and strong points. any questions?"
i raise my hand this time. "when is this due?"
"you have an exact month, mark." she replies with a smile. the entire class audibly perks up in confusion. mrs. schuyler never gives that much time.
she seems to notice the shift in the room. "well- i am looking for perfection and poise, and i truly do expect this to be a big project.." she drawls out, looking around the room. "this project also counts as half of your entire grade this semester, so it really is rather important."
the class seemed to develop into a slight panic after she stated this. mrs. schuyler rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "oh you guys, you'll be fine. wipe that terrified look off of your faces! it isn't even that hard, all i am asking for is effort."
a guy with pitch black hair and a lot of piercings raised his hand.
"yes, phil?"
"do we get to pick our partners?"
mrs. schuyler shook her head. "no, i've already gotten them ready for you.
the class then erupted into a flurry of whines and complaints.
"excuse me, this is not a kindergarten class!" mrs. schuyler exclaimed, smacking her hand on her desk to gain the classes attention on her once again. "i promise you guys will live."
she then grabbed a clip board, walking up to the front and center of the room and clearing her throat. "now, when i name the partners, i want one or the other to sit next to each other and discuss what problem they'll be doing. and so, the duos are.."
she had the classes full attention at this point.
"lester and howell."
everyone watched as the two boys shared a look, as if saying to each other:
'come sit next to me, i'm not moving'
'no, you come sit next to me, i'm not moving'
they seemed to have an entire argument with their eyes before dan huffed and stood up, walking over and sitting next to phil, who was now smirking.
"vail and kjellberg."
i could hear green bean curse quietly, and then we all watched as calvin nervously stood up and walked over to felix, who seemed to be shrugging casually at jack.
mrs. schuyler went on to name all of the other partners. i pay full attention when i hear my last name called.
"fischbach and..." she paused for a moment, squinting at the paper. "ah! mcloughlin."
at that exact moment, i tune everyone out. i feel my whole body surge with excitement, and i can't stop the grin from growing on my face.
i watch as jack gets up, and i see felix shoot him an apologetic look. jack stalks over to me, a pouty look on his face as he plops down in the chair next to me.
there is an intense silence for a few seconds, jack staring at his lap and me staring at him. i finally break it.
"hi."
jack noticeably tenses before slowly turning towards me, a tight, fake smile plastered on his face.
"hi."
this should be fun.
