The paramedics left me alone with a police officer by Evelyn's car. The cop was tall and blonde with bright res lipstick smeared down her face.

"How did you come across Evelyn's car?"

"Where were you headed to?"

"Where were you coming from?"

I answered each question somberly, looking out to the distance towards the swirling lights of the ambulance. My hammered in my chest as I looked over towards Evelyn's car.

I could see the dent of the front of the car more clearly now. It couldn't have came from anything stationary.

Ethan's warning. The foreboding.

I stared blankly ahead and thought of what Ethan had told me.

The police woman continued to question me and I continued to answer half heartedly. Once I was released, I got into my car and drove towards the hospital.

I thought about calling Ethan and asking if he knew anything about what happened to Evelyn. However, he seemed frantic last I saw him a few hours ago. He was probably miles away by now anyways, somewhere out in the woods unable to receive any calls.I sighed as tears welled up in my eyes and a sob lodged in my throat.

The ambulance had arrived at the hospital ten minutes before I did. The lady at the front desk was someone different then the last time I was there.

"Evelyn Valdez." I told the women. She looked up to me expressionless and snatched my drivers license out of my hand.

"She's still in the ER. Miss Valdez will be ready for visitors later."

The women shooed me towards the door, but I didn't leave. Instead, I looked the women straight in the eye and sat down in the empty waiting room rebelliously.

"Suit yourself," she said. "You'll be waiting for awhile Miss..." The receptionist looked down at my ID. "Clarks."

I just smiled and looked out the window towards the woods.

The receptionist was right, I had to wait a long time for Evelyn to be ready. It had began to rain outside, which was no surprise. In fact, it was much rarer for it to be sunny outside.

A nurse called me towards the hospital wards. Most of the rooms were empty and I was happy that the nurse walked me past the ICU unit.

"Good," I thought to myself. "Evelyn's going to be okay."

I went into her room. Evelyn smiled at me with bruised lips. "Hey. The paramedics told me you're the one who got me off that road. Thanks."

"Sure," I said turning towards the door to her room making sure it was closed. "Could I ask you something?"

Evelyn pushed her eyebrows together. "About what."

"The accident. What did you see?"

"What do you mean?"

"What happened."

"Something crashed into my car." She said.

"What?"

"Someone."

My pulse began to race and I could feel heat creep onto my cheeks. "What did they look like?"

Evelyn looked over towards the door. A custodian stopped in front of her room, picked up Evelyn's trash, and kept walking. Now that the coast was clear, she began to speak.

"They were tall and long, with white leather for skin. It was driving so fast, I had no time to stop. It hit them." Evelyn began to cry.

The poor girl probably thought she actually hit a real person. "If it were someone, you would've known, the police would've found the body."

Evelyn half smiled. "Yeah but I can't help but to feel guilty."

I stayed and talked with Evelyn for a while. Mr. Valdez, my old writing teacher who also turned out to be her older brother, came and visited her later. I took it as my cue to leave and drove home from the hospital.

I thought about Ethan's warning the entire ride home. Something's coming, and their worse then the Shifters. I shuddered at the thought.

Once I got home, it was late and Billy was asleep. Quietly, I crept up to my room and fell asleep almost instantaneously.

My last conscious thoughts were of Grayson.
