Lucas Friar's POV

"Urgh!" Maya moans. She rolls over and slams the pillow over her ears. "Lucas make them shut up!"

"I'm not magical," I groan.

"Don't sass me Friar," She mumbles. "I got up a half hour ago and fed them both. I've only been asleep for fifteen minutes. It's your turn to get them."

"Fine," I say with a huff. I snap up in bed, and stomp out of the room. The cold air startles my bare chest.

"Your shirt's on the dresser," Maya mumbles. "Hurry up before my ear drums burst. They're going to wake up Isaac and Elizabeth. It took me an hour to put them to bed."

I wave her away and walk heavily towards the screaming nursery.

This has literally been the worst night of my life. All the twins have been doing is crying.

"What do you girls want now?" I groan. I walk up to their cribs, I pick up Bethany, who's screaming louder than Grace. "Hey little one, it's okay. Daddy's here."

I rock her slowly. "Shh... shh... it's going to be okay."

The poor girl still is confused, she has no idea where she is.

And she only knows one person.

And Grace only knows one person.

"You're scared because your sister isn't right next to you," I whisper.

I place her back in her crib and put one blankets in the play pen. Then, I place the twins next to each other.

"There, your sister is right next to you."

As soon as their arms touch, the twins settle down. They find comfort in each other.

After I watch their connection in awe, something I wish I had.

And I begin to reflect.

For this whole damn project, I've thought of Riley. Of her kindness.

But I've been missing the beautiful girl who's actually with me.

Maya Hart.

A rebel. A rule breaker. A tough girl.

But she's beautiful inside and out. She loves her friends more than anything.

And she loves these kids with all her heart.

Because Maya doesn't live life like it's a game. Like sunshine and rainbows exist.

Unlike Riley.

Maya lives in a world of pain, hate, and fear. But she embraces it, and she wears it with pride.

With beauty.

And that's when I realize it.

She's mad at me most of the time because I've been so dumb.

Because I should be choosing Maya. Not Riley.

I get out of my seat quietly and leave the twins sleeping in the play pen together. I check on Elizabeth and Isaac, and to my relief, they're fast asleep.

And when I walk into our room, Maya's fast asleep too.

I lay down next to her, and wrap my arms around her.

"I choose you Maya."

And then I drift off to sleep.

Isadora Smackle-Gardner's POV

I hug Charlie goodnight before I head up to my bedroom.

I lay on my bed, thinking.

I'm so confused.

I'm raising a little boy with my best friend.

And the boy I love is raising a daughter and son with someone else.

I think about what life will be like for Charlie and I in the next year.

We're definitely not an ordinary family.

First of all, he's seventeen and I'm sixteen.

Second of all, we're just friends. So that's going to affect our son. Parents are supposed to be in love.

He's going to be so confused because Charlie and I don't even share a room.

Our son Mason Gardner.

As much as I don't want to throw the successful life I have in store for me away, I love this kid. He's so sweet and smart.

And Charlie's so amazing with him. It's just easy to be around those two.

I grab my homework, and work on it. I begin my essay about the first bit of parenting.

Notes:

Child cooperates.

Positive atmosphere.

Eating habits good.

Went to sleep easily.

Called us Mommy and Daddy.

Smiled.

After writing up my whole essay, I let myself drift off to sleep.

Maya Friar-Hart's POV

I wake up tired, but happy.

Huge arms wrap around my stomach though.

I twist my head in confusion to see that Lucas' arms are wrapped around me and his head leans on my back.

I thought we talked about the border on the bed.

But his arms feel nice there, so I stay there.

Well, I stay there until I hear the twins faint cries.

I slither out of his arms, pull my hair back, and head over to the twins room.

"Good morning sunshines!" I say with a smile.

I find them cuddled up together in the playpen.

"Aww..." I say with a smile.

That must have been Lucas' way to make them stop crying last night. And it definitely worked.

I pick up the playpen, which is surprisingly light, and carry it slowly down the stairs. The twins stare at me with their big blue eyes the whole time.

I place the pen in the kitchen, and start to make breakfast.

Blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs, and sausages. I'm in a good mood this morning.

After a half hour of of cooking, I start to hear little feet lightly touch the floors up stairs.

"It's morning!" I call. "You're allowed to come downstairs!"

About a minute later, a tired looking Isaac stands in the kitchen.

"Morning Isaac," I say. "How did you sleep."

"Good."

"Did the babies wake you up at all?" I ask.

"No."

"That's good," I say to him with a smile. "Does Mommy get a good morning hug?"

I crouch down to the floor and he comes over to me slowly, then he hugs me softly.

"What are you making?" He asks after we pull away.

I smile at him. "Blueberry pancakes, eggs, and sausages."

"That's my favourite!" He says with a smile.

"Well," I say with a smile. "They're reading now. So do you want to go wake up your sister?"

"Ya!" He says. "What about Daddy?"

"He'll get up soon," I say. "Just let him sleep for a little while longer."

I watch him bounce away and run up the stairs.

"Lizzy!" He calls.

Ya, he'll wake Lucas up without even trying.

I set the table as fast as I can, and then make the twin's bottles.

"Morning Mommy!" Elizabeth says with a smile once she gets to the kitchen. "I missed you."

She comes up to me and hugs me.

"I missed you too honey," I reply with the smile that hasn't left my face all morning.

"Let's eat!" She says.

I lead the kids to the table, and then grab them each a pancake. I cut them up in strips so they can dip them in syrup.

"On the side of on?" I ask.

"Side," She relies.

"On please," Isaac says.

"Good manners," I say as I put their syrup into their plastic plates.

I put some eggs and cut up sausages on their plates. Then I grab them each a glass of orange juice.

They start to eat and I pick up Grace.

"Morning sweetie. You hungry?"

I sit down at the table and put the bottle in her small little mouth.

You know what, I'm not half and at this.

When Lizzy hears Lucas' big thumbs down the stairs, she squeals.

"Daddy! Daddy!"

He comes into the kitchen with a smile.

"Wow, Maya. Great job babe."

"Thanks," I say with a blush. I'm still not used to him calling me that. It's most likely so the kids feel comfortable.

"Daddy! Daddy!" Lizzy calls again.

"Morning Lizzy!" He says.

She stands up in her chair.

"Be careful-"

"Catch me!" She says. She jumps into the arms of Lucas.

"Be careful Elizabeth!" I say.

Lucas just smiles at her.

"I got my morning hug," He says. "But I didn't get my morning kiss!"

And then she does something that makes my whole life complete.

She's about to kiss her Dad, but then she makes a funny sound.

"Ha-hurr!!!"

Lucas and I burst out laughing.

"What was that for?" Lucas asks.

"Well," She replies. "Mommy says that that's how you kiss Cowboys! And you're a Cowboy!"

Yep, my life is officially complete.
