Act II: Lukas

Lukas turned towards the direction Jesse headed after she kissed him. His static grin grew to an even broader one when he reminisced his first romantic memory with her. "Ah, those were the days..." before his mind drifted off.

Around 15 years ago, during Lukas' years as an infant. Lukas and Jesse were both at the same nursery, she had always caught his eye because even then, she had thought Lukas was simply irresistable. There were moments, awkward and utterly hilariois, such as when Lukas blushed red to see that little Jesse had clung onto his tender arm because she had a very severe case of astraphobia, and everytime a big one struck, she would jolt and clutch Lukas even harder, thinking he would protect her from "those horrible noisy monsters outside trying to kill us!"

One of the more hilarious moments was when Jesse was tricked into saying that she like-liked Lukas. "Yes! I like him! How much more can I like him?" was the answer. On hearing this, Lukas would often be teased by his mates. Being a week younger than Jesse, he thought it was disgusting. But after the business with the arm-clutching and the "my-hero" stuff, he had gotten used to it. He even began his hopes that someday, they could be more than acquaintances, but rather something beautiful.

It was still during their years at elementary where their feelings for each other were revealed. A new kid, named Aiden, was introduced. He was older than all the other kids, his arrogance and bossy personality frightened the kids, so he often got his way. One morning during respite, Jesse was in the sandpit building little sandcastles when she was accosted by Aiden. He, being a right jerkwad, began to make fun of her, kick the sand onto her overalls, and push her around. Lukas was playing football during this time, and he saw Jesse being pushed around by Aiden. She was tearful, amd looked as if she was in distress (which she was). She needed a protectorate, a guardian. She needed Lukas. He met with conflict, it was partway during the second half and Lukas was their best player. When he was forced to choose between throwing the match and watching Jesse suffer, he threw the ball down and did what nobody in the school did. He stood up to Aiden with true confidence.

"Hey you! You let her alone, now!" Aiden saw this as a silly little threat and towered over Lukas."Or what?" he boastfully accosted. Lukas was not deterred by Aiden's height, and he stood his ground, and despite knowing the possible consequences, continued with "You don't scare me. They may think you're a monster, but I, I'm not afraid to stand up for-" The next part was what sparked the future romance, Jesse was looking away, but she turned her attention to little Lukas when he said "The cutest, smartest, and most sweetest girl in this school. If you think a blossoming tulip like her is to be treated like dirt, think again." Aiden admired his bold stance, and with pleasure, backed off. Jesse was truly shocked by his actions, no-one has ever done this for her. She was so jovial, she immediately hurtled towards Lukas and what happened next silenced the whole school for a whole week.

She kissed him, full on the lips, and he kissed her back. Everybody stared in awe at the scene. Some watched in pure disgust, while others applauded Lukas' courage and devotion to protecting her. Moments later, they broke apart and giggled coyly, they turned to face an applauding audience. She applauded Lukas as her hero, her devoted protector. This laid the foundations for the blossoming romance between the cute couple. When Lukas finished reminiscing his earliest memories, he sighed with such relief that there is the one girl for him, and she was perfect for him. "Jesse. I'd sacrifice everything I have just to keep you safe and with me. I will always treasure these moments in a special place in my heart. I love you..." The day ended by the time Lukas reached his cabin. "...so much."

The kiss may've only been a fond memory, but to Lukas, it was a moment of true bliss.
