Chapter 20

40 2 16

I stood before Fire and Water. I wasn't really looking forward to the fight, based on how unprepared I was, but it was a bit too late to ask for help.
Water beats fire...fire and water make...a thing... Somehow, I need to get Water's attacks to hit Fire. Any ideas?
   I'm afraid I have none.
   Brilliant!
   Isn't it just?
The only way to win was to use their powers against each other, but getting Fire and Water to actually do that was going to be the world's hardest task. I could hardly ask them to fight each other, after all.
"If you win, I'll be surprised." Fire commented.
   So will I...
"Give her a chance." Water responded. "People do extraordinary things in extraordinary circumstances."
Water was definitely an optimist and an idealist. Even I could recognise that she made no sense by giving me the benefit of the doubt. Fire just grunted, arms crossed. He was a realist, that much was clear.
"Are we going to begin, or are you just going to stand there and talk all afternoon?" I asked the pair.
   "Sure."
Simultaneously, Fire and Water transformed into two large dragons. Fifteen arrows. It sounded like a lot, but only a handful would actually be able to pierce dragons scales. I hurriedly selected one, and loaded my bow.
I avoided the first jet of water that was sent flying my way, and then barely dodged Fire's first attack. As regained my balance, I shot the arrow at Water, and it stuck in her shoulder.
Bingo.
Angered, Fire began to breath a far-reaching flame. At the same time, Water repeated her first attack, combining both attacks. This created a cloud of steam, lowering the visibility massively. You'd have thought I wouldn't be able to lose two dragons, but I did.
"Peek-a-boo!" a female voice giggled, as a tail swept across the floor and knocked me over.
Uh- Oww...
I rolled onto my front, and hastily stood up. The steam was slowly dispersing, and I could just about make out a blueness among the molecules. Loading my bow once more, I fired another arrow at who I could only assume was Water.
A loud roar informed me that I'd hit her. A strong gust of wind blew away the smoke and I could see that Water now had an arrow in her leg, as well as her shoulder. Once Water stopped beating her wings, Fire launched a third attack - a three-stage attack, consisting of fireballs that increased in size.
While I was doing a good job of avoiding these attacks, it was getting tiring. Once these attacks were over, I fired another arrow at Water, and this one lodged in her lower spine. This must've hit a nerve - literally - as she instantly fell to the floor, seemingly paralysed.
One down, one to go...
I reloaded my bow with another arrow and raised my sight to Fire's neck - I needed a clear shot so I could get this fight over. Once I felt I had an opportunity, I released the arrow, and it subsequently rebounded. It did, however, grab Fire's attention which is exactly what I needed.
He was preparing his next attack. I knew that I needed to get Water to hit Fire with an attack if I was going to have a chance at winning.
As Fire finished off creating a huge ball of flames, I positioned myself in front of Water. She was still lying on the ground, struggling to move after being injured. As soon as she saw me, I could see she was preparing to fire a large blast of water, and that's exactly what I wanted.
I was stood between two dragons, and we were in a perfectly straight line. Both of them launched their attacks at the same time, and as I dodged both attacks, Water's attack rendered Fire's useless and it continued to soar towards her brother. Upon impact, a wild cloud of steam rose, and the red dragon soon became a person once again.
   "Fire!"
If Water was able to move, I'm sure she would've moved towards her brother. Instead, however, she transformed back into a person and tried to remove the arrows that were presently stuck in her. Unfortunately, all the arrows I'd used had heads shaped like a swallow's tail, and they wouldn't come out with a simple tug.
Making the most of this perfect moment, I aimed my bow at Water for a final time.
   "I think this fight's over." I stated.
She glared at me, and I returned the same stern look. After a few seconds, she sighed, and gave in. Sure, it seemed too easy, but I was hardly going to complain.
I didn't look back to my opponents as I headed back to my family. I was unbelievably relieved that I'd won, and very surprised.
Nice work.
No thanks to you...
You didn't need help.
Before I could think up a reply, Dragon had locked me in a hug.
"Uh, hi..." I mumbled. "You can let go now..."
"Oh, sorry..." Dragon responded, ending the hug.
It wasn't that I don't like hugs...I just wanted to collapse onto the floor and sleep.
"The next round," Ghost called from a far distance, "Anton and Light."
   "OK, are you ready, Anton?"
"Yup." he calmly replied with his usual cheery smile. "See you on the other side."
He took his leave, and walked onto the battlefield.
