It was just another text message from my best friend, Jaymondo, on just another Sunday night. But, it was also the same night as the night before school was going to start up again after winter break. According to a rumor going around school, there was a new girl going to our school located in Manhattan, New York - Waverley High School, that is. But, there was something about this girl that was, dare I say, interesting.

Jaymondo: Hey, Emery. Of course you've heard the rumor about the new girl and stuff but, I just heard about some new stuff about her.

I had to find out because this gives me a new chance to find new love since, even though I'm a high school senior, I've never had a girlfriend before and I want to have one before heading off to college.

Me: Tell me.

Jaymondo: BTW, this was the only thing I heard about her.

He wasn't telling me right away. So, I got a little impatient.

Me: Well, don't just stare at your phone screen. Come on, Jaymondo, tell me about her.

Jaymondo: Okay, okay. Jeez. Her name's Maya and she's half Spanish.

I might have read this over and over again to make sure I was reading this straight. So, she's half Spanish?! I couldn't believe it. I thought this was too good to be true.

Me: That's so cool. I can't wait to meet her.

Jaymondo: Well, u don't have 2 wait because she's coming. 2 NY. And 2 our school. 2morrow!

Me: K. Cool. See u 2morrow.

Jaymondo: Alright. See u.

Although, I had very little info on Maya, she was coming to New York tomorrow. I feel kind of unprepared since I don't know what to do about, I don't know, first impressions. All I know now is, if I want to get Maya under my arm, I had to think of something. Charm, wit, intelligence? What should I use? I pretty much stayed up the entire night just thinking about Maya, how she was coming to our school, and how I was able to be her boyfriend. But, the morning that Maya came to New York arrived and I was out of ideas. What am I going to do? I've got nothing. I'm completely clueless. Well, maybe I'll just think as I go. Hmm. I bet Jaymondo might have a better shot than me with Maya since he's also half Spanish. I got my phone off of my nightstand and I saw that the clock on my phone read: "6:23 A.M." I realized that I had about twenty minutes to get ready for school and think of a new plan. Compromise is key. About twenty minutes later, the bus pulled up in front of my house as Me and my sophomore sister, Elaina, rushed out of the door and headed for the bus. When I got on the bus, the first thing I do is I try to find Jaymondo and sit next to him on the bus. And, as usual, I did.

"Hey, Jaymondo," I said as I was sitting down on the seat next to him. "I can't believe that Maya is coming to our school... today!"

"Yep," Jaymondo said. "She's coming to Manhattan. It kind of feels cool that we're having another new girl at our school."

"Yeah. I can't wait to meet her."

"So, quick question."

"Ask away."

"Between the both of us, who do you think has a better shot with Maya - me or you?"

"I say it's definitely you cause your more her type since your both from Spain and your also half Spanish."

"That's true."

"And I stayed up all night last night just to find out how I could be her man."

"And?"

"And I got nothing."

"Hmm. Typical, Emery."

"Hey, knock it off, Jaymondo."

"Sorry. By the way, since you're kind of desperate,"

"Which, I'm not," I interrupted.

"First of all," Jaymondo said, just to get the conversation back on him. "You didn't let me finish. And, second, stop denying it. Anyway, if you really want Maya to be yours, you can always ask me. Besides, I've dated Maya before I moved out of Madrid."

"You can really help me and you've dated Maya before?"

"Yeah. You heard that correctly."

"Hmm. Show off."

"Hey. You do realize that, ever since I started dating her, I know everything about Maya, right?"

"Well, tell me something I don't know."

"Oh, there are a lot of things you don't know about her."

"Just tell me one thing."

"There's two sides to her. She can be really sweet but, tick her off, you'll be riding the bus home with a black eye."

"Okay. I'm just nothing but confused right now."

"Maybe," Elaina, my sister said from the seat behind us. "I can help you out, Emery."

"How?" I questioned her. "How can you help me?"

"Because I spend most of my time on my phone looking up videos on love advice. I'm pretty much a love guru."

The bus finally stopped at the school and I got off and walked inside. I walked up to my locker and, for the first time ever, I think I fell in love. The girl I fell in love has a locker right next to mine. She has black hair, tan skin, brown eyes; she was really pretty. But, when I heard her speaking Spanish, and mostly Spanish, that's when I realized that her; that's got to be Maya. Jaymondo walked up behind me just to talk for a little bit when this apparently had to happen.

"Jaymondo?" The new girl asked, looking at the both of us after she saw us out of the corner of her beautiful, brown eyes.

Jaymondo exclaimed, happily: "Maya! Oh my God! I missed you!"

Jaymondo had his arms wide open as the new girl ran up to him. His arms wrapped around the new girl as her arms wrapped around Jaymondo just so they could each other a hug after not seeing each other in such a long time.

"Hold on a minute, Jaymondo," I said. "Is this the girl you've been telling me about? Is this Maya?"

"Yep," He replied. "Emery, this is Maya. Maya this is Emery, my friend."

"Hi," Maya said in her sweet, loveable, and adorable voice. "Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too." I said.

Then, the bell rang and class was starting. I did get a little jealous since Maya and Jaymondo had history first - and pretty much almost every single class together - while I had to go calculus first. The only classes I had with her was gym, homeroom, and music. So, at the end of the day, I just hopped on the bus with Elaina and head back to my apartment. I just couldn't get Maya out of my head. The first thing I know, I fell in love. Hopefully, the next thing I know turns out great.
