Carl P.O.V
"I was gonna tell you about Michonne and I, I swear. It just happened. Literally just last nig-" I hold my hand up to his mouth."I don't need the details. I get it. Stay safe," I say, reaching for Judith who is in his arms.
"You're not coming?" He questions as I kiss Judith on the forehead.
"I don't think a kid with a messed up face is the best addition. Besides, someone's got to keep this place together," I give a grim smile, and my dad gives and exasperated look because he hates when I degrade myself.
He's going to check out Hilltop, where this guy Jesus is from, to see if we could make some deals and ally. "Rick! Lets go."
He gives me one last goodbye, before hopping in the R.V where the rest of the group is. I watch them drive away, smiling at Judith before walking to the house to sit and spend the day. I just hope Enid will come over today.
My prayers are answered as a half our later a knock sounds on the door and I shoot up from my spot on the floor where I've teaching Judith how to say 'Bubba', which is her version of brother.
"Hey," Enid says as I open the door wide, motioning for her to come in.
"Hi," Judith bobbles into the room, smiling gleefully when she sees Enid.
"Ennii," she screeches and Enid grins at Judith's version of her name.
She scoops up Judith just as we hear screams coming from the gate, as the door is still wide open. We look at each other, both of us shrugging and walking towards the commotion.
"MOM! NO," we hear as we walk closer.
There is a girl there, about our age, kneeling next to a body on the ground. "No. She's gonna wake up, you don't need to shoot her."
A stranger is pointing a gun at the body, but the girl is hugging the obviously dead woman on and begging. The people of our town are just staring like idiots, so I decide to take this into my own hands. I walk up to the girl, who is sobbing loudly, and put my hand on her shoulder. Her blonde head turns to me and her brown eyes pierce into me. She looks angry, sad, and dirty. You can tell she's been out there for awhile.
I look at the woman on the ground, taking notice of the bite mark on her neck. I wonder how she got this far without dying already. "I'm sorry, but there is no way she'll be okay."
The girl shoves me away and I stumble for a second, holding up my hand to Enid as she steps forward. "She's fine.." The girl protests.
"I'm sorry, she's not going to make it and I'm not going to let you put my people in danger by letting her turn. So either you do it or I do it," she gives me a disbelieving look and I pull out my knife to show her I'm being serious. She rips the knife out of my grasp and stares at it for a moment.
Suddenly, she shoves the knife into her mothers skull and falls to the ground beside her. "Hey, come on. Stand up," I grab her forearms and stand her up. Her tears are leaving tear tracks through the dirt on her face and I try not to pity her.
I order someone to take care of the body and the older guy she came here with offered to dig a grave. Enid follows us back to my house and once we get there I let the girl sit on my couch and wallow for a bit. "Carl, we don't know her."
"I know, " I murmur back to Enid.
"What if she's dangerous?"
"She doesn't look emotionally stable to be that dangerous. I'll ask her the questions, its what my dad would do," I walk away from Enid, crouching in front of the couch where the girl is.
"What's your name?" I ask, but she ignores me and keeps sobbing.
"Go take Judith upstairs please?" I plead Enid and she reluctantly heads up the stairs.
I sigh and plop myself down on the floor. "Look, its either you answer my questions or I kick you right back out there, along with your buddy."
"I'm Mary," she finally answers and I respond with me name.
"How many Walkers have you killed?"
She glares at me, but I'm not affected by it. "Too many to count."
"How many people have you killed?"
"One.. Two thanks to you," I sigh, exasperated.
"Look, I get it if you want to be mad at me. Just know you're not the only one, things are bad all over." a puzzled look comes across her face, but she doesn't say anything.
"The last question is why?"
She looks down at her hands. "One was trying to rape me. And, well, you know the other one. And that other guy is Jeremy, he's 20 and he's kept me alive. We used to be with a group but we got attacked and we're the only survivors. And the only people he's killed were to protect us."
"Well. welcome to Alexandria." I swing my hands around me, as if showing off the town.
"Are you the leader?" She looks blown away that someone like me could be a leader, with one eye and only 16 years old.
I shake my head. "My dad is, but he's out on a run today. That other girl that's here is Enid and the baby is my sister Judith."
"Cool," is all she says.
