The winter air was cool and crisp,
refreshing after sitting in a wood stove
cottage for most of the day. It was
Christmas break. No putting up with
high school drama, homework and the
boys that often caught my eye. One in
particular was always on my mind. I
put my snow jacket on along with my
favorite blue sack hat with some
gloves and a pair of winter boots. I
headed outside across the snow
covered, slippery dirt road. This area
had no paved roads except for the
main ones that lead to town. As I
headed into the forest across the road,
I kept my balance while I walked over
the plank that went above the ditch
surrounding this part of the forest on
the other side of the road. I took note
of the setting sun and decided to
make this walk in the forest a quick
one. I looked around me and saw that
there weren't many bushes and it was
clear to walk where ever you pleased,
mindful of the trees. There was a good
amount of snow that layered the
forest floor so it took more energy to
walk up the huge hill. It was a nice
day. Ever since this mourning i felt
different, happy even. I even started
thinking something was going to
happen today. As I climbed higher, I
got a bad feeling, as if someone or
something was here. Great, I was
really enjoying today. I started to
panic, feeling as if I should go back
early. Could it be a bear? Nah, they're
hibernating. A wolf or maybe a pack
of wolves? Oh God. Should i go Back
to the safety of my uncles cottage
where my family was probably playing
cards on the dining room
table we ate every meal at. I shaked
the creepy feeling suggesting that my
mind was playing tricks on me. So I
continued my way up the hill, telling
myself that I had nothing to worry
about, but the sense that something
was here kept growing.
