I was still awake and contemplating life when the door to the room slid open. Sitting up, I watched as a tall man walked in and we had a small stare off before he cleared his throat.

"You are to follow me," he said in his language, "you will be learning what your job will be. What is expected of you, and any other thing you might not have had programmed into you."

I blinked at him, "Programed into me?"

The worlds felt foreign rolling off my tongue, and I wondered how long that feeling would haunt me.

His nod was my only reply before he turned to the door and motioned for me to follow.

Hopping off of the bed, my short legs worked overtime to catch up to the giant of a man. I took in our surroundings, though there wasn't much to see.

Long corridors filled with doors like mine, leading me to guess we were in the housing portion of this space ship.

Not that I knew much about space ships or anything, but I imagine they have sections.

Following as closely as I was to the giant, I almost ran into his back when he turned a corner and stopped, arm up in what I assumed was a salute.

But you know what they say about assuming things; it makes an ass out of you and me.

There was a group of three men in front of us in the hallway, and figure they were higher up than this guy. They nodded at the guy leading me before glancing at me, disgust flashing through their eyes before they could mask it.

"What do you have here?" the guy who looked to be the leader of the group of three asked, motioning to me. The same feeling as before came over me, like I shouldn't know this language.

The guy leading me didn't spare me a glance when he replied, "A human the seer's said we should buy. I am taking her to learn her job before we get to Lexalon."

The three looked disgusted and shook their heads, "We never should've brought those two. Humans are useless," the leader spat, before motioning us away. "Carry on, I don't want to look at it anymore."

The man leading me relaxed before starting to walk again. Not sparing the three another glance to give myself away, I quickly followed the other guy. "What was that about?" I questioned him.

"Nothing you need to concern yourself with," he growled back, clearly not in the mood to talk.

I nodded, though he couldn't see me, and didn't say anything more. We walked through a couple more long hallways, down some stairs, and through one last hallway before we stopped in front of a door.

He knocked once and it slid open for us. Inside there was an older looking lady, and three more men. They looked like warriors, and I immediately felt small and fragile.

"This the human?" The woman asked, looking me over. Her eyes had that glow to them, and were an interesting shade of pink. Her height rivaled that of the men in the room, but still seemed to be a couple of inches shorter, though I couldn't be sure because she was sitting.

She was skinny. Incredibly skinny. Looking her over, I felt like I could like her if we weren't in the circumstances we were in. She looked old enough to be my mom's age, and I wondered if she had any children.

The man who had brought me replied with a yes, and the lady motioned for me to sit across from her. The three men that had been in the room looked me over curiously before leaving the room.

"Will you be staying with us?" the woman asked, not taking her eyes off of me.

The man nodded, "Sadly I was charged to guard her, so yes."
