A/N: Light trigger warning for brief mentions of eating disorders.
------
It was late by the time Dinah stumbled into her apartment, her feet tired from walking and cheeks tired from smiling.
Even after they'd walked around and window shopped for nearly an hour, Dinah still felt full enough from dinner that it was nearly uncomfortable. She'd forgotten how much she loved that feeling.
Dinah pulled the door shut, and leaned back against the wall just inside. Closing her eyes, she flashed back through the night's events with a smile, wanting to remember all of it.
Lauren had said goodnight outside the building just a few minutes before, stepping out of the cab they were sharing to open Dinah's door for her with a laugh.
When Dinah had managed to get herself together enough to look at Lauren, Lauren had reached for her hands, her thumbs running over the backs. Her eyes had practically sparkled, her smile puppy-like and adorable, and her cheeks had seemed slightly pink under the streetlights.
Sighing happily, Dinah let her head fall back against the wall as Lauren's beautiful face floated in her mind.
She could still feel her cheek tingling where Lauren had kissed her, going up on her toes and pressing her smiling lips just beneath Dinah's cheekbone chastely.
The combination of nerves and the flustered beginnings of infatuation had made Dinah's hands shaky as she put her number in Lauren's phone.
Caught up in the moment and the dreamy way Lauren was looking at her, Dinah had almost wanted to invite the other woman inside, take chances and trust that Lauren would continue to be unreasonably kind and adoring with her.
It hadn't been realistic, though. Somehow, the idea of taking Lauren home with her after the first date ruined the precious sanctity of the time they'd spent together.
And as she reflected on it now, the thought of inviting her in was almost laughable.
Something told Dinah that Lauren would've said yes, though. Something told her that if she wasn't so visibly shy and uncomfortable around people, Lauren would've kissed her full on, and moved herself even further into Dinah's space.
The really weird thing was that Dinah almost wished Lauren hadn't held back. Every time Lauren had touched her or took her hands, Dinah had felt her own heart speeding up.
By the time Lauren had left her at her apartment, she was craving more contact, daydreaming of wrapping Lauren up in her arms or being pressed gently against a wall as Lauren went up on her toes again, kissing her lips this time instead of her cheek.
Her ears were still ringing with Lauren's infectious laughter, playing on a loop as if Dinah had put the track on repeat.
She wondered if Lauren was feeling the same way, maybe with her head back against the seat of the taxi, biting her lip as she smiled and remembered.
As she pushed off the wall and took off her jacket, Dinah found herself laughing giddily, both at the thought and at the entire situation.
Everything that had happened since Lauren had seen her sitting in the corner of the bar was improbable, and before tonight, Dinah would've called it impossible.
But now, Dinah was smiling and daydreaming about someone and something real, in the apartment where she normally fell apart or did her best to escape from her life and the people surrounding her.
Walking back to her bedroom, Dinah stripped off her shirt and unbuttoned her jeans, singing the last song she'd sung at the bar under her breath.
"Please don't scar this young heart, just take my hand."
