The first week of school seemed to fly by. Before I knew it, it was the weekend. I had made plans with the group later on but I needed to let my elements free.
I put on my pink Zumba tank top, black running pants, put my hair in a ponytail, pulled my phone armband on my arm and grabbed my black zip up jacket then headed out the door.
I sent my sister a quick text letting her know I was going on a run to the woods to let my elements out a little.
Putting on my workout playlist and first up was Justin Timberlake's "Can't stop the feeling". Feeling energized I started jogging down the street and towards the woods. After a 30 minute run I felt like I was far enough out to be seen. Taking in my surroundings I took a deep breath, focused on my powers deep down inside me and like a spark, my powers awakened.
My entire body felt alive and I spun around willing the air around me to swirl. The air followed as I moved my arms around and it danced with me, spinning in perfect unison. The earth below wanted to join in, I lifted small amounts of soil underneath my feet as I went. Inviting the roots and vines to come out. Pulling the elements all around me out. It felt so good to use my powers.
After a few songs I thought it was time to head home. I was getting a little tired with how much magic I was using. Suddenly the elements shifted. I could sense I wasn't alone anymore, so I began to run.
Sprinting around trees and trying to go anyway but straight. I put my hand up to the trees bending the closest one down toward me, the branches encircling my arm to help me up and hiding me as it straightened back up.
Turning off my music and being a quite as I could I waited. Suddenly there was figure. Tall, muscular, scruffy facial hair and looking for something he hadn't seen but had sense. He sensed me.
I blew the air around me ever so slightly in the opposite direction hoping he would follow it. Willing my heartbeat to steady I hoped he would go. After what seemed like an eternity he finally headed in the direction my wind was flowing. I quietly bent the tree down to let me down and stood up against the trunk as it stood tall again. Then I ran as fast as I could.
Before I could make it out of the woods I was yanked backwards and thrown to the ground. The wind getting knocked out of me and pain shooting through my body.
"Who are you?! Why are you out here?!" He snarled gripping the front of my hoodie. It was the same guy who I thought was far away had turned around and caught up with me. He was taken aback that I was a girl and he loosened his grip.
Just enough for me to will the ground beneath him to go uneven and me the chance to get away. This time he didn't chase me.
Not stopping or looking behind me until I was home. My chest hurt, my lungs couldn't get air fast enough and my legs were burning. But I was home. I looked around the streets to see if I was followed and relief flooded me when I didn't see anything.
I texted my sister letting her know I was home and safe. I took a shower to wash away all the sweat that I managed to not notice and get ready to meet up with my friends. Putting on a pair of jeans, my Paramore Riot t-shirt and converse just in time to hear Lydia pull up and honk the horn. Grabbing my keys and purse I locked the door.
"Hey, how's it going?" I asked as I got into her car.
"Good, ready to get the weekend going" Lydia said cheerfully.
"Me too. Where we going?" I asked as she pulled the car into the road.
"There's a lacrosse game later so we are all meeting for food now. Have you ever seen a game?" She asked as I looked at her sideways.
"No I haven't but it sounds like fun"
"Oh they are!"
We got to a diner where the others were waiting for us. Each of us saying our hellos. Then ordering some food. No realizing how hungry I was until the smells of fries filled my nose. My stomach growled.
"Geeze Willow when was the last time you ate?" Stiles looked at me as he heard my stomach.
"This morning" I laughed a little embarrassed.
"Sounds like it was days ago" Scott chimed in.
"Well I went on a long run earlier. Gotta burn up those carbs"
We were having a great time hanging out and eating. It was great to have friends and be a normal teenager for once. Then I looked up and walking towards us is the guy I saw in the woods. My heart sank.
