Martha Firestone Ford is the owner of the Detroit Lions. Everyone that knows her likes her. She is one of a handful of lady owners in the NFL.

She decided to choose Bob Quin formerly of the New England Patriots, as the new GM. He was with the Patriots for 16 years. He is well versed in player signing and development.

His first task was to rehire Jim Caldwell as his coach. Jim is a great man and coach. 2016 was his third year in Detroit. The Lions have gone to the playoffs two of his first three years.

They have yet to win in the playoffs during his coaching time. Jim will be back in 2017 for a fourth year.

Bob began hiring people to work in his personnel department. Once his staff was complete he began searching for players for the roster. They worked tirelessly to build depth for the team.

In 2016 the team sustained a lot of injuries. 16 players went on IR and several more missed games. Matthew Stafford, the lions great quarterback and my favorite player was hurt with four games left in the regular. He never missed any time with the injury though his performance suffered. Matt continued to be the teams leader. Other players were fired up to see their quarterback play over the pain. On one play, he went back to pass and found no one open. He broke for the goal line and was hit at the five yard line but keep on going into the end zone.

When I saw the play I was stunned. Matthew was like a wrecking ball. He just would not be denied.

During the off season he and his wife are expecting twins. Being a father is a great thing. Being a father, a husband and a top five quarterback in the NFL is nothing short of a major thing.

I am very proud to be a fan of Matt Stafford.
