Intro to the halls of the prestigious Rallman High school
My nerves had been toying at me for this day. The first day of my senior year of high school.
The first bell of the day tolled and the kids around me all started bustling around trying to get to their first period classes. I glanced down to the small sheet of paper labeled 'schedule' and saw the word philosophy penciled in for my first class of the day. I waded my way through the door to my class and sat in the very front row- as close as I could possibly get to the board. The rest of the kids started filing in few by few until the bell tolled and the last few people we're waded on in by the teacher closing the door.
He was tall and had a lanky and unnaturally thin build but had a sort of depressing manner in which he held himself which made me soften by just looking at him." It is very good to meet you all and my name is Mr. H. Just the single letter H is all you will call me. Formalities for a philosophy class are really not needed so I do not bother with them and I assume you wont mind my doing that."
He spouted in a very quick but quiet and hushed tone.
He continued,
"This course was designed to make you feel unnerved, angry, confused, unresolved, and quite frankly a little on the stupid side. But those emotions are completely expected from each and every one of you in here because you are all human. To begin this course we will diverge into human nature and... " he lolled on and my eyes started to drift and wander about the frankly dull room. When I saw this class on my schedule, I was honestly a little surprised such a religious school had accepted a philosophy class into it's curriculum especially considering it's rather closed minded staff and their tolerance for anyone that dares to exit the established social norm at the school.
"... And so you are expected to read and dissect select chapters of any writings by Walt Whitman that you please as long as you come to the discussion next week with something good to present the class and wise words to say. This debate will be worth two test grades. You will also be expected to have a partner to help represent your thoughts. "He said as a close to the class.
Fun.
