"
They call you cry baby, cry baby, but you don't even care."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Six years old
Jungkook's POV
It was just a normal school day. My mother woke me up early so I wouldn't 'accidentally' miss the bus again. I ate breakfast and caught the bus like I do (almost) everyday.
It's not like I don't go to school because I don't like school. I love school. The teachers are nice to me and the classes are fun; it's just the other kids in my class who make me feel like ditching.
They say things to me that I know are true, and they treat me how I probably deserve to be treated but I don't like it. They say things like 'you'll never fit in' or 'maybe if you'd stop acting like a crybaby we'd let you play with us'. I know I may not be the best at sports or know all the rules to every game, but I'm trying and in learning; that doesn't seem to be good enough for them.
I'll see them getting off the bus and I try my best to blend in by hiding in between the big kids. I want to try to avoid them for as long as possible. I don't want to deal with them until I have to.
Walking into class today felt... different. I don't know whether that different was good or bad, but it was just different.
Taehyung POV
My family just moved into a new house. I was excited to live in a new neighborhood and make new friends, but I was also nervous because I had to attend a new school. I had barely started school, and I already moved to another one. I made friends easily and was well liked at my old school but something tells me that here it won't be so simple.
As I was standing outside of the school building my nerves began to calm (barely). The building was kind of small, so I didn't have to worry too much about getting lost. The playground was HUUGGEE too! There were so many different things to do and games to play that I had never seen before. The adults here seemed nice enough but it didn't seem like I would be seeing too much of them.
No matter how many good things I saw, I couldn't shake the feeling that things at this school might not go as smoothly as I'd hoped. I told myself repeatedly 'You're gonna like it here. Everything is gonna be fine. Find one person - just one, and become friends with them. NOW CALM DOWN'. All this stress and I haven't even walked into class yet.
Jungkook POV
I was standing in line waiting for the teacher to come and let us into the classroom, when I saw a boy I had never seen before walk in with who I assumed was his mother. He looked excited upon first glance, but when you looked, like... really looked, you could see that he was scared. I don't blame him. The kids here aren't exactly the nicest you've ever met, and some of them can be the absolute worst. He looks like a nice kid, like somebody who I could be friends with. He doesn't know what reputation the other kids gave me, so he might want to be my friend; that is if I don't mess it up.
I didn't notice I was staring until he tilted his head at me and smiled. This smile wasn't just any old smile. This smile was special. It was a very big, bright, and rectangular smile. This smile was so contagious, if you saw it, there's no way you couldn't smile back. His smile was different from the others that I received from the teachers or my classmates; this one seemed sincere and had feelings behind it.
Maybe today wouldn't be so bad after all.
Taehyung's POV
I walked down the hall towards my classroom with my mother. As soon as we turned the corner, I saw a line of kids around my age; my classmates. None of them looked very welcoming, except one.
He was different from the other kids; he had big, round, brown eyes; not like an tough, ugly brown but a nice, pretty, soft brown. His nose was defined and beautiful. (A/N I know that's kind of a weird way to describe his nose but I don't really know how else to describe it) He did seem a bit smaller than the other kids. The other kids weren't very big either but they looked bigger, maybe it was a confidence thing. He also seemed a lot quieter, as everyone around him was talking to somebody except for him.
I don't know whether this was by choice or if the decision was made for him by the other students. Judging by the way he was standing and the look in his eyes, I'm guessing it was the second option. All of the other kids were standing closely together, talking and laughing, while he was standing at the end of the line with plenty of space between him and the other students.
And the look in his eyes... I looked up and noticed he was looking at me. I was curious as to why and tilted my head but then I really looked into his eyes and it was almost like I could feel what he was feeling.
As soon as I knew he needed a friend. No, that he wanted a friend, somebody to care for him and protect him, and that his eyes were asking me to be that for him; I smiled. I think that's when he noticed he was looking at me, and he smiled back at me. I don't know what it was about it but, seeing him smile at me, made me happy. Like really happy.
His smile was so bright, and cheerful. His toothy smile reminded me of a bunny. His big front teeth were a nice asset to his overall appearance. It fit well with his personality. Something inside is telling me that he doesn't smile often so, having him show me his smile made me feel like I was doing something good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Recess: Author's POV:
Taehyung was being bombarded with questions from the other students, like where he came from or where he lives now, and even offers for him to join various groups of friends. He wanted to make a friend, but he wanted to make the right friend. These kids were nice enough to him and tried to help him 'fit in' but he never really felt truly comfortable around them.
All he was worried about was finding him.
Meanwhile, Jungkook was watching Taehyung get the attention of the other students. He watched him already become accepted as one of them. He figured that since he received all of this attention from everybody, that he would t want to be his friend after all.
He was so deep in thought that he didn't even notice somebody come and sit down next to him on the bench. When he finally realized what happened he froze. He didn't know what to do in this situation. He looked over and noticed the one person he'd been looking for all recess was sitting next to him. He also noticed the entire class looking at him.
Each classmate had a different expression on their face. He didn't understand what was gonna come from all of this but he knew it wasn't gonna be good.
He was about to get up when one of his classmates started yelling rude comments at him for 'stealing his new best friend away' and how 'he won't stay long once he finds out how weird you are'.
He tried to block it out but it became too much because most of the students joined in. His eyes began to tear up. He couldn't take it anymore. He tried to run away, but he felt somebody grab onto his wrist. He turned around to face the owner of the strong grip on him, only to be met with Taehyug's concerned yet, comforting stare. This made the tears begin to fall; fast and hard.
He heard many students began calling him names, but one in particular stuck out to him; one that he's been hearing his entire life: crybaby.
Jungkook is a sensitive person and will get emotional at simple things. He doesn't know why he's like this but he hasn't been able to change it. His brother had called him a crybaby, along with his parents, on multiple occasions. They told him that if he doesn't learn to control his tears, he would get made fun of. That advice didn't really help if course, as it made him worried and cause him to cry more.
He was about to release himself from Taehyung's grip when he stood up and said bravely
"Hey! Leave him alone! He didn't do anything to you, so why are you hurting him? If you want me to even think about being your friend, you will walk away from i and leave us to talk. You will also not hurt him any longer. Understood?"The students just stared at Taehyung with a shocked expression, and some began to whisper in protest. They eventually got the message and walked away, but that didn't make Jungkook feel much better.
Taehyung wrapped him into his embrace and started to run circles on his back to try to calm him down. He whispered encouraging and uplifting words to Jungkook until he stopped crying.
He looked up at Taehyung.
"T-Thank y-you." He said. This time, he didn't really think about the act that he stuttered.
"Anytime. I don't like to see people hurt. Especially people who I care about." He replied without even thinking about what he was saying, or how it made Jungkook feel.
"You-You care about me?"
"Of course I do. You seem like a nice guy, and something about you makes me feel comfortable around you. You want to be friends?"
"O-okay. Sure. What's your name by the way?"
"My name is Taehyung. What about you?"
"Jungkook."
"Well, Jungkook. Even if you are a crybaby, at least you'll be my crybaby, right?"
"Yeah, but I don't wanna be anybody's crybaby." He said with a cute little pout on his face. Taehyung couldn't help but punch his cheeks.
"Well, in the meantime, you'll be my crybaby."
"Ok"
