"Seriously?" Quentin asked. "Seriously? You traded my first edition of Fillory and Further for a cold beer? Penny!"
"I was thirsty," Penny said, sullenly.
About half an hour later, he admitted the real reason.
"The voice--listen, the voice said I should," he told Quentin. "It's--he said Fillory would hurt you. And I didn't want to see you get hurt. And--"
"And?"
"...and I was thirsty," Penny said.
He really didn't mean to hurt Quentin; it's just that Quentin swung at him, and Penny just--reacted.
