The girl you didn't Notice

Chapter 21

Mom was obviously too confused, or I should say freaked out.
I looked at her waiting for her to speak something.
"She is just a child, talking to her imaginary friends", she said jokingly, but I could see the color drain out of her face.
She was scared.

"Mom. I guess I left my shawl in the attic. Could you please get it for me?", I asked her.
She nodded.
I decided to follow her, I didn't want her to freak out there.
I walked behind her, and surprisingly she didn't ask me any questions.

She opened the gate that led to the attic.
God! Is that Katie sitting inside?
I held my mom's hand.
"Mom let's leave. She is here already", I said.
"Don't worry, she is my baby girl".

I looked up.
It wasn't mom. Amelia.
I let out a scream and ran downstairs. I saw mom waiting in my bedroom.
"Lisa, where were you? And why did you scream?", she asked.

I couldn't say a word. I just broke into sobs.
Am I really becoming insane, I thought to myself.
Just then Hadley came inside.
"Lisa, here is your shawl.", she said.

Mom was utterly shocked.
"Hadley, how did you know that she wanted her shawl. I was supposed to get it from the attic but Lisa went alone to get it.", mom said.

"Mom, Lisa went with Katie's mom. Katie had already found Lisa's shawl in the attic, so she gave it to me.", Hadley said.

Mom looked at me with raised eyebrows. I was still sobbing.
"Mom I need to sleep, please."
I just wasn't in the state to explain her anything, or myself, for that matter.
