Hey guys, another new chapter. Hope you are enjoying the story. Shout out to @EquipoDeLeo for commenting. I really appreciate it. Also, sorry to say, I will be updating a forenight from now rather than a week, I am just busy and I won't have time. Sorry about that, but the next update will be on March 3. Anyways, thank you for reading!
Standing over my kill, I looked back to the girl's whose life I had just saved. Her face filled with horror as she stared up at me.
"Darcy?" Her voice was weak. I knew that something like this would happen. Now she knew the truth, and once again, it was all my fault.
"She gets on my nerves. She dares talk to me like that?! I will not let her get away with this!" As Veronica's screeches reached me, I wished that I didn't have such strong hearing. But I knew that it would come in handy, she loves to talk and if she planned revenge against me, I would know it.
"Why don't we follow her? We may find something about her that we can use! If she is as strange as she is, she must have some kind of embarrassing secret or something!" Rebecca, one of Veronica's loyal servants exclaimed.
"Rebecca, that is the best idea you have ever come up with!" Veronica jumped up with a smile on her face and an evil glint in her eye.
"Not that there is any competition" I mumbled, giggling. I knew that they wanted to follow me, so that means I could control what they see. This was going to be fun!
I made my way to the shops stopping only pat a cute puppy on the head.
"Hello Baxter, how's life?" I smiled as Baxter nudged closer to me.
"Why hello Darcy! Stopping by today? I can make you something." Mrs Gladius offered.
"No thanks, I am just heading up to the shopping centre. Do you want anything?"
"Thank you Darcy, but I am all good. I'll see you later," she waved me off.
"Who was that? How did she know Darcy? Is that Darcy's grandma or something?" Tiana asked. I rolled my eyes. 'Of course not, she is just a friend I have known a long time...' I thought.
"Possibly, but I doubt it. Look at the way she just walked off," Veronica surprised me with a smart comment.
I smiled as I walked down the streets. As I headed into the shopping centre, I saw that there was a sale in the clothing shop. I didn't need anything but don't often get a chance to shop so I decided to poke my head in and grab a few things. Besides, there was someone I wanted to see. The store attendant found me quickly to help me. A teenage boy who looked like he would often get into trouble.
"Why hello, miss. Is there anything I can help you with today?" He asked with a sly grin. I rolled my eyes.
"Why would a guy pay attention to her? There is not much to like," I heard Veronica comment. I refrained from turning to glare at her.
"Just ignore her, she ain't worth it. Besides, she doesn't know you like I do."
"Wow Ash, that was kind of sweet of you," I laughed.
"Don't go getting used to it, I still have a reputation to uphold," he smiled.
"Yeah, a reputation of the name 'Ashton Katara', causing people to cower in fear because he tried to use a 'Barbie' doll as a voodoo," I said sarcastically. I heard the girls behind me snicker.
"That was one time, Darce. Give me a break. Man, you're annoying..." He sulked. I laughed and went back to searching through the clothing racks.
"Wait a second, they don't look alike. Could they be dating?!" Rebecca whispered. Her surprise annoyed me, but Ash, being protective, was more agitated than I was. I saw mischief make a glint in his eye. 'Oh no,' I thought.
"So Darcy, you feel like hanging out? My shift is just about to end..."
"What are you planning?" I whispered so only he could hear. He just grinned, waiting for me to say yes. "Sure, I guess..." I was hesitant to agree.
"Cool, let me just serve the other customer over there who has been waiting for service for ten minutes." He sauntered off. I rolled my eyes again and walked off to the counter.
About fifteen minutes later, we left the store together heading off to one of the cafés. We got a table quickly and I ordered a tea while Ashton just got a water. I noticed that my followers were watching from outside and couldn't hear what we were saying.
"So what is happening with those girls? Why are they following you?" He asked, obviously noticing where my pursuers had positioned themselves.
"They want some gossip to hold over me, but they don't know that I am fully aware of what they are after and where they are. And I can still hear them now!"
"Girl drama, I will never understand..." Ash shook his head.
"She wants revenge after I sassed her in front of her boyfriend. She was utterly humiliated because she has no life other than her social one. She needs to find something to do other than embarrass herself further," I rolled my eyes and Ash just nodded.
"Look, Veronica, I need to go home now, mum is going to kill me if I get home too late and... I have to go," one girl said.
"You can go, in fact, all of you can if you want. I have to find something but if you feel like helping me is too much of a task, leave. I don't need any of you!" She cried as she stood and hid her face behind her hands. She shook her shoulders to leave the impression that she was heavily crying. I glared at her through the window but none of them noticed.
"I'm sorry Veronica! I really have to go, though. I promise that I will make it up to you! I will buy you some more of your favourite makeup and pay for your clothing shopping for the rest of the week!" One girl, genuinely crying, apologised from her knees. I stared at her, shocked at her willingness to abide by that girl's ridiculous rules of friendship.
"Wow, why do they stay by her? She is clearly not worth hanging around," Ash stated. I gave him a look. "What?" He said with a dumb look on his face.
"Obviously, Veronica has power in the school, those in high school who have not faced anything worse than other teenagers fear her and as she has power, anyone who is with her also does. They are better off with her than without. At least that is what they believe," I explained. Soon both Ashton and I finished our drinks and Veronica was the only one left stalking us.
"I think I better get going. There are some things I need to take care of before I go home, see you later!" He said giving me some money so I could pay the bill. Not enough to cover it, but more than half. He gave me a kiss on his way out, the girls outside stared at him dumbfounded as he walked out.
"Thanks Ash, see ya!" I smiled. I paid the bill and left. I knew I probably shouldn't go to my house while Veronica followed me, she could come up with some major ideas about me, but I wanted to get home. So I decided I would just take my time and take a couple of detours and hope she would just give up.
I still hadn't lost her by the time I got to the forest that surrounded my household.
"Ugh, just go away!" I muttered. I heard a bush rustle. I stopped in my tracks as I realised that the sound came from in front of me. Ashton wasn't supposed to head back to the house for another couple of hours, no one else had been following me. At least, no one I knew of. I dropped my bag and positioned myself in a fighting stance.
"Come out, I know you are there..." I said. I heard Veronica gasp behind me, she thought I meant her. I subtly waved my hand at her, telling her to stay back. She was obviously confused. Then a laugh rang out.
"My, my. I thought it would be a little while longer before you noticed you weren't alone," a man walked forward and I could sense Veronica's shock and curiosity rising. I had to get her out of here, but I couldn't do anything with this guy here.
"Tim, why are you here. I have no business with you guys anymore," I sighed, agitated.
"Come now, of course you do. Luckily for you, our master does not yet wish to kill you. In fact, if you return to us, with Ashton, we will look all of this over," Tim said smugly. He thought that he had made an irresistible offer, but I shook my head.
"So she is with some sort of gang?!" Veronica gasped. But I am not the only one with strong hearing. Tim had her by the throat before I could register what had just happened.
"Let her go Tim, she has nothing to do with this," I said firmly.
"DARCY, HELP!!" Veronica screamed. I winced.
"She knows who you are, she has everything to do with this. Return to the cult or this is the last time you see this girl alive," Tim smirked. I growled.
"Maybe I should suck her blood, I do need a boost right about now," Tim teased and Veronica screamed at the top of her lungs. It must've been all her tantrum screams that trained her to because his grip should have kept her quiet. Her scream was unbearable with my powerful hearing but as Tim was the one holding her, he was more affected. I took the chance and drop-kicked him across the face, making a smooth cracking noise as he fell to the ground. I didn't waste a second and made sure he wouldn't be getting back up. Veronica stared horrified at the corpse before her. I shook off my hands.
"You shouldn't have followed me. You could've got yourself killed," I told her.
"What are you? You just murdered a man and you're acting as if it was nothing. Not only that but the speed of your attacks is physically impossible for any human!" She stared up at me.
"Your welcome. And I guess you found the story you wanted from me, eh?"
"How did you..."
"I have really strong hearing, I knew you were following me before I left the school. I just couldn't shake you off. You should probably head home now."
"Right, but before I go, what are you going to do with the body?"
"Burn it, his kind burn quite well." Veronica's eyes widened at my words.
"His kind, are you a... Vampire too?"
"Vampire?"
"Creature that sucks blood, well, that is the basis of them anyway."
"Huh, never heard that term before, I guess I have been too busy."
"He said you were part of their cult, you are one of them!"
"So what if I am?" I decided to let her know the truth. No one would believe her. Her eyes widened further and she made a break for the forest. It was later that I realised my mistake. After Tim had dropped her, she recorded everything. She had evidence of what I had said and done. She held it over me. I had to do everything she said or she would share her knowledge. I worked and worked for her, never daring to do anything until I got so fed up with her demands that I fought back. She demanded yet another petty thing of me and shoved her phone in my face, setting my temper in a bad place. I grabbed her arm and slammed it against my knee, breaking it. Then I punched her in the head and knocked her unconscious. She had a concussion and it was a miracle that she was hurt no further. But I was expelled from the school for being so violent.
I had no regrets other than letting her find out the truth. I moved schools and I haven't seen the girl since. But now Ella knew the truth, and history could repeat itself.
