Love.

An emotion so foreign, yet so familiar. If he was lucky enough, Alois could perhaps reach out and his fingers would brush such a delicacy. However, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't grasp his acquaintance's love.

Claude was out of the equation, of course, as he couldn't seem to display any other emotion than pure apathy. His other demons strayed far from it as they too lacked knowledge of the said feeling.

Ciel seemed to be the only living being he knew personally who was capable of producing such a thing, yet Alois was sure that he could never be in the limelight of his love.

The only people he had ever been 'close' to had been his so-called parents and his cherished younger brother, Luka. Albeit, all three of them were dead.

He knew of no others than his uncle Arnold, who he thought of as dead, and his cousin Aleistor who lived a rather childish and spoilt lifestyle that strayed further than his field of liking.

All in all, Alois was alone.

Despite his attempts at involving himself with various kinds of people, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he'd forever bear the weight of loneliness.

He wanted to be loved or thought of dearly by at least one person, regardless of their gender or status. He simply wanted someone to understand and love him for who he truly was before he slipped away unnoticed from this world.

Why everyone disliked him seemed to be the question lingering in his mind perhaps a few too many times.

He knew he was childish and forgetful, rude and politely unkind but he only acted that way to hide his cowardly nature. In reality, he knew he was nothing more than a lost little lamb who was afraid of his own shadow.

He told himself that there was someone out there who loved lambs(particularly lost ones), but he had yet to find them in this vast universe.

The funny thing was, he didn't have all the time in the world to do so.

Perhaps he should give up, he thought sullenly before a voice roused him from his rather upsetting thoughts.

"Your highness," his emotionless butler greeted as he stepped into the study uninvited. Alois didn't particularly drill at him if he did so, as he didn't mind. "You have a meeting with Ciel Phantomhive this afternoon, and he requests you wear your finest clothes."

Alois, who had almost fallen asleep on his desk, lifted his head in silent surprise.

"I don't recall setting up such a thing." He mumbled with creased eyebrows and a small frown.

"I believe Ciel himself organised the meeting."

Alois' frown deepened further. He could sense Ciel's clear disliking towards him, yet the newfound information confused him in the worst way.

He wondered if that was a subtle way of Ciel explaining that he didn't exactly resent him, but he knew that wasn't the case as Ciel would never admit it aloud.

"Very well." Alois sighed, leisurely stalking to the door. "Claude, prepare the carriage whilst I change clothes."

"Yes, your highness." A deep silence followed and Alois could clearly sense that his fellow butler had something to say.

"Go on, Claude." He sighed, his fingers brushing the door knob expectantly.

"You are going to change on your own?" He questioned. If Claude was surprised, he surely did not show it.
