"swore i'd never lose control."
—
"so have you made any other friends yet, yerim?" seulgi's voice asked with a tiny smile.
after almost a full week of being absent, she finally came back, with bags under her eyes and a paler complexion. i wondered what had kept her out for so long.
yet, despite her fatigue and her absence, she still greeted me with that same kindhearted smile.
"i-i met a girl named sooyoung," i answered her question, fumbling with my hands in my lap, a nervous twitch i often had.
seulgi's face lit up and beamed with a grin. "park sooyoung?" she paused, allowing me to have a moment to nod and reply. "i know her, she's really nice."
her tone dropped all of a sudden and she frowned, an expression that i never thought seulgi would show unless she was truly upset. "i feel kind of bad for her, though.."
confusion struck me. was something wrong with sooyoung? she seemed so cheerful, so perfect. how could she not be okay? all the scenarios of what might be wrong played through my mind, giving me painful mental images.
i looked up at seulgi with a worried face. "w-why, what's wrong?" i asked with a great amount of concern.
seulgi opened her mouth to answer, but was interrupted when joohyun tackled her with a hug from behind. i'd never seen joohyun this enthusiastic before. she wrapped her arms around the younger's neck and laughed. "i missed you so much!" she said as she hugged her best friend tightly.
joohyun sat down on the other side of seulgi. her smile faded when she noticed the obvious fatigue on seulgi's face.
"oh my god, what happened? you look horribly exhausted," joohyun said worriedly as she placed her hands on seulgi's cheeks.
"it's been really stressful with work, and minyoung has been keeping me up all night, crying," seulgi told her with seriousness in her tone.
i watched the scene unfold, and i wished i had a best friend i could confide in, tell them every detail of my day, and care about their life, too. just like seulgi with joohyun.
joohyun gave seulgi a sympathetic frown. "i've told you so many times, i can help out with minyoung if you need me to—"
"no, it's okay, i can do it myself. she's my responsibility."
