The Great Vacuum as we call it was a danger no one could escape. All cars flew through the air and were melted or crushed in seconds. Planes were grounded in every airport in a 1000 mile radius. People all went into basements and bomb shelters and invited all their friends. It was like a tornado that no one knew if it would stop or not. 90% of population had no clue what happened, and the 10% wished it didn't, and with it named after me scared people turned into angry people. Scientists everywhere were looking for a solution to the Great Vacuum. My lab unit was working day and night. I always took the late shifts and picked up extra shifts. We were not making any progress and we all knew what we had to do: we had to make a miniature version of the great vacuum and study it. It is incredibly dangerous and convincing the president would not be easy. We decided that telling the public would be easier. We needed someone to go on broadcast in front of the nation. The obvious person was me. The only issue is I have MAJOR stage fright. The last time I got on stage was during our school talent show. I fainted and the show ended because I had to go to the hospital. Still it was my duty as the chemist who might be responsible for burning the world to do it....
"So Ms Stokes what do you have to say about the issue that YOU caused?"
"I have to um.. Say um... I'm sorry?"
" Sorry is all you can say! Sorry is not good enough. You may have derailed  life as we know it."
" I um am ummm working on a solution"
"And are you making any progress?"
"No"
"Now why is that"
" Cut, Marianne will you knock it off the girl is sweating like a pig. She is obviously scared out of her mind! Get her some water. Now Jenny listen sugar just say the truth. I may just be a camera man but I've seen a few of these get your composure and just say the truth. OK?"
" Yes sir but I think I'm gonna faint" Jenny wheezed
"Slow breaths OK. Slow breaths. I'm Jared. "
The cameraman lifted me up and set me on that couch and I knew I could do it.
"Stop fraternizing with her she is a criminal. "
" Marianne calm down!"
"Calm down? I have a show to get on with. I will not calm down. Go get your camera rolling We are starting."
"So Ms. Stokes how did this all occur?"
"My department was just running some tests on noble gases and we realized that combining them was possible yet no one had decided to do it yet. We decided for the sake of science that we had to do it. We never knew anything like this would happen."
"Now earlier you said you were making no progress on the solution to this tragedy. Why is that?"
"We need to umm to run some experiments. "
"And you have a lab do you not"
"That is correct."
"Then why aren't you running these experiments?!?"
"Because we have to make a miniature version of the great vacuum and study it which can be potentially dangerous. "
"More dangerous than the reading hot tornado that is covering the west coast as we speak?"
"Unlikely."
"Then and I hope I speak for everyone when I say you should do it!"
" But we need permission from the President."
" Call him up right now! We will take a commercial break and figure this out"
I clumsily fumbled through my purse to find my Orange Bphone. I called the President and it went fine mainly because I explained that I just went on national television. He agreed but I am meeting with him in a week and I don't believe it will go well at all! But at least I will get to see more of Jared. He seems nice.
