I listened to him talk, his laugh, then his voice following the short joke he made. I didn't laugh, I just listened.
"Are you okay?"
My thoughts started again and everything came back to focus.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm okay."
He continued his conversation and I fell into the same daze.
The past three nights it didn't faze me, it was just two best friends talking. But, tonight it was different, my heart hammered a little bit harder, and my mind became all fuzzed. I couldn't tell him, it can ruin everything.
"You sure? You're a bit too quiet." His voice echoed through the phone speakers, knocking me out of the trance again.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said with smile on my face as tears filled my eyes. "I promise."
