제3장

The next day and the day after that, Ryeo went back to the forest to meet Jungkook. Those summer days, she ran and played all around the mountain with him by her side. Ryeo remembered as she looked through the bus window, tracing drops of rain as they fell on the window.

Ryeo's P.O.V:

"Over here, over here!" I cried with happiness as Jungkook just walked.

"It's better over there." He said. As the wind blew hard my sun cap flew and got stuck on the branch of the tree.

"Ugh," I complained.

"There," Jungkook said as he helped me get down my sun cap.

"Thank you," I said as I put on my sun cap and swirled around in my pale yellow dress.

The next day:

"Like this?" I asked. Jungkook nodded and watched me.

He placed the leaf boat on the surface of the water of the river and we both watched with amazement how the boat went down the river, along its soft current.

The next day:

We played catch, I started running around the same tree over and over again and Jungkook chased me with a stick in his hand so we wouldn't have to touch each other.

I ran away from the tree and towards the deeper forest. Jungkook tripped on a rock and fell down. He legit stayed there for a while and then got up to chase me again.

The next day:

Jungkook was sleeping peacefully on the fresh juicy grass, while I was plucking some flowers.

I picked a bunch of flowers into a little bouquet. I got up and dusted my little pink dress.

I ran towards Jung kook and sat on my knees as I watched him. "Did Jungkook fall asleep?"

I kept my flowers down and lifted my hand. It's fine if I touch his mask, right?

Without thinking anymore I grabbed the edge of the mask and lifted it slowly.

I saw an innocent face with a beautiful jawline and perfect features without any flaws. Whoa, so much for a spirit.

He opened his eyes slowly, I got startled. "Ah! Sorry!" I said, slamming the mask right into his face again.

He held his mask and groaned. "Attacking someone while they're asleep.... You sure are a scary little lady," he said while rubbing his head.

"I'm sorry, but you were pretending to sleep, weren't you?" I said while keeping my gaze down not looking at him.

He kept his head on his hand that rested on his thighs. "I looked normal, didn't I?" He asked.

I stared at him, then nodded and asked, "Why are you wearing that mask?"

"If I don't wear this mask, I don't look like a spirit, do I?" He asked.

There was silence between us but then I broke the silence saying, "you're weird." He just laughed.

After that we walked down the temple stairs. " Um... Jungkook, I won't be able to come here from tomorrow. I told you about it before, right? That I'm just staying at my uncle's place for the summer? So I have to go back to Seoul tomorrow." I said.

He just said, "mm hm."

I sighed and then looked down.

Then Jungkook stopped walking and turned to me and said, "will you be able to come again next year?"

"Yeah," I smiled and nodded happily and started to walk again.

Even though it was silly, it was so much fun. Going to the forest and playing with him.

This is how summer became something I looked forward to every year.
