caged

we all grew up to be
someone who's not free;
we all followed a path,
mistaken it for unity.
we were taught values
that we always fail to use;
so we end up searching
until we die and lose.

i always thought i'm different
but they say that i am not.
how could i ever be different
if we've all felt that from the start?
i was told that men and women
will never be the same.
how could they say that
when we can all feel pain?

we're caged but we possess
the key to be free.
choose to live outside the box,
choose the path without footsteps.
take in the same air,
but climb a different mountain.
be free as a bird,
leave the cage and avoid another capture.
