~~> SAGE POV <~~

Quinn told me he wasn't vey sure of this place, the prison, and it worries me because he's usually right when he has one of his gut feeling moments. I also worry a lot for Jay because she's so young but she says I underestimate her. With Jay riding on his back again, Quinn took her to get some food. I eventually followed them. They went off somewhere and I was alone. I wanted to talk to Daryl, but couldn't find him any where and people were looking at me as I was an outsider so I gave up and decided to walk around.

After a while I saw Daryl talking to a lady, who I think goes by the name Carol. I, fortunately was close enough to here a little of what they were talking about.

"It's getting as bad as last month," she said, "they don't spread out anymore."

Who? The walkers, that would make sense.

"More of us in here will draw more of em' out. Get in more of those damn fence cleaners and they start to herd up."

"It's manageable, but unless we get ahead of it, not for long.

Sorry Pookie." she laughed and he shoved her playfully.

I guess there is some kind of thing going on between them. I honestly think it's kind of cute. Back when, post apocalypse, he wasn't one to get a lot of girls, Merle was that brother. Oddly.

He started walking away and that was my cue. I walked up to him and incessantly smiled. He looked at me weird, but most likely figured that I was watching him.

"Sup Sage."

"Who was she, ya'll together?" I asked.

He scuffed. "No, and we are not talkin' about it."

"Oh Come on Daryl, I ain't a little girl no more."

"No, but you are still my little cousin. So problem solved, we are not talking about it."

"You kill the fun."

I laughed and he smiled. Something I haven't done with him in forever, but it makes me question how long these perfect moments can last.

"We are going on a run today, for food," he said, "Ask your boyfriend if he wants to come."

I scuffed.

"What? no invite for me?"

"I can't risk you getting hurt Sage, I'm tired of losing people. I just got you back."

The way he looked at me calmed me down. Though he doesn't understand yet the asset I could be to the run team, especially since everything I know he and Merle taught me. But I wasn't gonna fight him, he was right. We just found each other, we can't risk the loss.

I sighed.

"I'll tell him. He has a name you know, Quinn." I joked.

"Yeah whatever."

•*•*•*•*•

After I told Quinn about the run he agreed and went to go meet up and talk with "The counsel" and eventually they left Leaving me with a limping Jamie.

I help her walk a little, my arm was like her crutch. The people started warming up to us and Carol, the lady Daryl is into, told me I should call the other kids to story time and that Jay is invited. so that's why we are walking out front, where the kids are. What made me curious is that the kids were waving hi to the Walkers and giving them names. They eventually stopped when the Sheriff's kid, Carl, started criticizing them. I needed to stop it especially if Jamie was going to be friends with them.

"Hey guys." I said way too perky.

"Hi." they said in unison. One girl spoke up, she was blonde and looked as if she wanted to go play outside and not be trapped behind the gates.

"Hi, I'm Lizzy and that's my sister Mika. we heard your Daryl's cousin."

"Yeah, I am."

They all looked at each other and I looked at Jamie and saw that she was busy staring at Carl. I laughed.

"Anyway this is Jamie and I was hoping she could join you for story time."

Jamie nudged me in the stomach and whispered "I'm not a kid, I don't do story time"

Before I was able to apologize to her Carl interrupted. Apparently he heard her.

"It's okay, she doesn't have to. She can play with ball with me."

"She's injured." I told him.

"Oh, well them we'll find something else to do." He smiled. I know that they are just teeny boppers and hope he doesn't have plans for something else.

"Okay, I'm trusting you with her." he nodded and I smiled as they began to talk as the rest of the kids walked away.

I followed them back up to the prison and went to walk around when Hershel stopped me. He asked me if I minded helping out with the walkers that were herding at the fences. I wanted to say no, but I did want to keep this place safe since me and my group were staying here for a while, so I agreed.

I grabbed a cane that was sharpened at the end, gloves and a robe. One by one I started killing them off very quickly and I was not hesitant about it. I looked to the side of me where the other people were and they looked at me and laughed.

"Wow, they got Daryl's cousin to work the fence with us. Hi, I'm Karen."

"Hey, I'm Sage."

"Having fun there? Your working pretty fast."

"Yeah, got used to killing them out there to protect my group that it's so much easier when they're stuck behind the fence."

"Nice"

I nodded and watched as she got back to work. They all were taking a pretty slow pace killing each one and I ended up struggling to follow along.

Time flew by and it was getting late, I took off the robe, the gloves and hung the cane. It literally is a job. I found Jamie talking with Carl, but they looked nervous. I cleared my throat, reassuring to them that I was there, and they looked up at me and acted like it never happened, shrugged it off their shoulders and smiled. Carl went to his Cell Block and Jamie limped off with me.

"What's wrong?"

She didn't answer me, all she did was look at the gate and change the subject.

"Quinn's here."

I watched him as he gave the supplies to Daryl to put away and ran up to Jamie and hugged her. I kissed him on the cheek, then went to Daryl and hugged him. I was happy they're okay, but Daryl looked down.

"Someone died on the run today." He said.

"Well thank you for keeping my boyfriend alive, as well as yourself. I need you."

I didn't give him time to answer because Quinn had left me and already went to the cell block and I had to catch up.

Quinn fell asleep on my bunk and Jamie with him, so I climbed to the top bunk and slowly fell asleep there.

Soon I felt someone shaking me lightly awake. I slowly opened my eyes and my blurry surroundings became more clear.

"It's morning."

I saw Quinn right in front of me smiling with a little light from the outside shining on him. I smiled, but jerked away coughing.

"You okay?" he asked worriedly.

"Yeah I'm fine." I responded while yawning.

Looking at Jamie hugging him was perfect. This was a perfect morning. That was a big jinx wasn't it? Oh well. And I was right, a loud scream came from the other cells downstairs and Quinn looked at us with only one word coming from him.

Run.
