Chapter 12

Jake's mom Emily's car pulled up and Jake walked up to the door to get the girls.

Ding dong!

"Hey Jake." Jenny said while opening the door.

"Woah." Jake said, staring at Jenny's outfit. "You look amazing."

"Thanks. You do too." Jenny replied looking at Jake's outfit. He was wearing black jeans, a blue sweatshirt that said YOLO on it, gray Jordans, and his brown hair was covering his forehead.

"You look great too, Lizzy." Jake said. She was wearing a black Old Navy zip-up sweatshirt, a red T-shirt that said Disney on it, navy blue jeans, and red Converse.

"Thanks." Elizabeth said, looking down at her shoes.

"Ready to go?" Jake asked, smiling.

"I am. Lizzy are you ready?" Jenny said turning to her best friend.

"Sure. Let's go." Elizabeth replied in a gloomy tone.

"Is everything okay?" Jenny asked.

"I am fine...." Elizabeth replied still looking down at her shoes.

"You sure?" Jake asked.

Elizabeth didn't reply and brushed past Jake out the door.

"I don't think she's okay." Jake said while watching her open the car door.

"I will talk to her later, let's go." Jenny replied.

They got in the car and drove to the fair grounds. Jake was in the front seat and the girls were in the back.

"Lizzy, you sure you're okay?" Jenny asked.

"No I'm not okay. You and Jake are gonna hang out together all day, while I'm gonna be the third wheel."

"I will make sure that doesn't happen. You mean more to me than any other person in the world. Besides my mom of course, she's my number one. You know that."

"Thanks Jenny."

"No prob Lizzy. Your like a sister to me."

Elizabeth smiled and pulled her phone out from her pocket. She plugged in her earphones and listened to music. Jenny did the same.

"We're here!" Emily said.

The girls put their phones away and got out of the car once they were parked.

"You excited?" Jake asked.

"Yes! This is gonna be so fun!" Jenny replied.

"So what ride are we going to ride first?" Elizabeth wondered.

"Hold up guys. We are still in the parking lot. Also I have something to tell you. So right now it is 11:24. At 12:30 I am meeting a friend at the farris wheel. I will be with you guys until then. At 3:00 meet me at the Super Drop, and I will pay for you guys to go on that ride. I am trusting you guys to go around the fair grounds on your own. There is an announcement every hour saying what time it is and how many hours until the fair is closed. Once it gets to 3, unless you are on a ride at the time, make your way to the Super Drop. You can't be more than 15 minutes late. Got that?"

"Yes mom."

"I am trusting you Jake."

"Okay."

"Let's go! You have until 12:30 with me."

The four of them walked into the fair grounds and got their wrist bands.

"Let's go on the Pirate Ship!" Jake said.

"That's sounds good. I'm up for it. What about you Lizzy?" Jenny said.

Elizabeth shook her head and they made their way to the Pirate ship. They got in line, and when it was their turn they scanned their wrist bands and got on the ride.

After 3 minutes the ride was over. "That was super fun!" Jenny said.

Jake put his arm around Jenny and they walked to the next ride like that. Elizabeth looked them then at her shoes.
 
The time lead up to 12:30 and Emily made her way to the farris wheel. "Okay I gotta go, I'm trusting you guys." she said.

"Okay mom. Love you."

"Love you too Jake."

Jake, Jenny, and Elizabeth went to the Loopy Loop roller coaster and it was a two seater. Jenny and Jake sat together and Elizabeth sat alone behind them.

"Jenny, I thought you said I wouldn't be left out." Elizabeth whispered in Jenny's ear.

"Only this ride. I promised you wouldn't be left out, and I meant it." Jenny whispered back.

"Okay....." Elizabeth replied while Jenny turned around.

The ride started and Jake and Jenny were screaming and holding hands while Elizabeth was looking down the whole time.

The day went by and they rode almost all of the rides. "Hello California Fair! Here is the hourly announcement. It is currently 3 o'clock. The fair will be closing at 10 pm which is in 7 hours! Enjoy the fair!" The announcement said.

 "We gotta get to the Super Drop." Jake said.

"Okay." Elizabeth and Jenny said.

They made it to the Super Drop at 3:10 and got on. Jenny was in the middle and Jake and Elizabeth were on the other sides of her. Jake's mom and her friend sat on the side that only fit two people and strangers sat on the other two sides.

"Ready Jen?" Jake asked.

"Yes. Please don't call me Jen. I don't like it." Jenny replied.

"Okay. Sorry."

Elizabeth looked at Jake, surprised he called her Jen. No one calls her that because she hates it. Elizabeth stared at them while they talked. She felt like crap. Her best friend was hanging out with this guy she's known for a year while she's know Elizabeth since 2nd grade. "5 YEARS!" Elizabeth blurted, realizing she was thinking out loud.

"What is 5 years?" Jenny asked, turning to Elizabeth.

"How long I've known you! You have left me out all day!" Elizabeth replied.

Before Jenny could answer the ride shot straight up. Jenny tried to reply but Elizabeth couldn't hear her. The ride went up and down. Elizabeth just enjoyed watching Jenny try to reply while she ignored her. Elizabeth was having fun for the first time today.
