When it comes to living with mental illness and more particularly with depression, it's one of those illnesses that's the most misunderstood and also misdiagnosed. It's sometimes hard to know for sure your diagnosis or the diagnosis the doctor completed was accurate and that he/she didn't miss anything.
And with that, comes also with livng in a world where our society has chosen to view use with shame. They pity and shame us after we've declared our mental illness to others. As Bill Clinton quoted: "mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. But stigma and bias shame us all."
Living with that kind of society makes it almost nearly impossible to live on, to live a life worth living, a life we have dreamt of living when we were kids, the life we've held on until depression or our mental illness took all of that away from us. Not only that, and to clarify that more in detail; it takes our life, our friends, our education, our energy, our dreams, our personality and makes us into someone we are not, more rather to say the opposite of who we were before; as well as all that truly matters. It affects us in ways that gives us no energy at all at times to stop pursuing our passions, hobbies, sports, activities and interests.
Depression and mental illness is just as serious like any other medical/physical illness out there. Dementia, and Alzheimers (AD) affect and are affected by the brain. Particularly with the amagdala and hippocampus. With low or lack of memory. No matter what it is, it affects the body and it also affects the brain in some way too. Because the brain is what keeps the human being alive. It's the thing, the organ in our body that keeps us alive.
And therefore without it, we woudlnt' be alive. So wouldn't it make sense to take better care of our brains in the ways of practicing and allowing ourselves to learn about the mental health subject as well as mindfulness, self love, self care, self confidence, meditation, and everything else to give us a longer life? And a life worth living to the absolute fullest by making sure we keep our bodies including our brains as healthy as we can?
