Chapter 4

I ducked my head down, and the small throwing knife that was heAding for me lodged itself in the wall behind me. It must've been covered in toxins because a hole started to burn a hole in the wall. "Who's there?" I asked, aiming my bow in the direction the knife came from. "How did you find me?" A girlish voice demanded. "What do you mean, 'find you?'" I turned when the girl spoke from the other side of the room. "How did you find me? You must want me for something." Another knife came toward my head, and I dodged it. Black winged people are known for their speed and stealth. "I just want some food, okay? Just let me get some!" I yelled at the girl. "Wait, come closer." The girl said. I saw her silhouette at the end of the aisle. I took a few steps closer, aiming my arrow at the ground. "You come closer." I demanded. The girl stepped into a shaft of light.

She had very light blonde hair, perfect pale skin, and startling blue eyes. Her hair reminded me of the sun reflecting off the tops of the clouds at sunset. She had two anomalies about her: she had a big scar running from her eyebrow to her chin, and her wings were golden. Everything about her screamed 'Sunset.'

"Who are you?" I asked. "My name is Zakat Ametrine, but you can call me Zak." She replied happily. She put her hand out, and I warily put my bow down and shook her hand. "I'm Astéria Asterism, but most call me Ash. Is there any food around here? I've been flying for days." "Really, that's all you wAnt? Here... take this." she handed me a sandwich. I sat down to eat it and she sat in front of me. "Why would I want anything else? There's nothing here." I asked. She pulled out a throwing knife and spun it in her hand. "Let me tell you a story...."
