D entered the room and bowed. An elder one sat with his back faced toward D, the wind from the window blowed on to his face.
There was a moment of complete silence, except the blowing of the wind and the chirping of the birds outside. The curtains flew.
"I beg of you, the wise one," D was still bowing, "Help me to make her stay with me."
"But you are hurt, D. What makes you think that I'd help you? You are no longer under my command, so I'd prefer not to harm a friend's heart." the elder smirked.
D took a deep breath in and then drew a deep breath out. There's sweat on his forehead now, tiny drops close together. The elder's smile was kind but also crucial to him, for the elder have never been known for kindness.
"I will obey you for the rest of my life, elder one." D said at last, "I'll go back as Killer D."
The smile on the elder's face increased even more: "Alas, D, I didn't expect you to say so. To give up the light you have longed for because of that girl and go back to the darkness? But since you mentioned it, it's not polite to reject now, is it?"
"She's the only reason that I'm still breathing in this world."
"Then, let me teach you hypnosis."
The elder paused for a second and then continued, "There's nine rules altogether in hypnosis. To begin a hypnosis, you first set the time and make sure you will not be interrupted. Then continue the hypnosis with a pendulum, and wait. Once the time's up, the subject is hypnotized."
D bowed again when the elder have finished his teaching, and left happily.
A girl drifted in the darkness, muttering something. She looked weak and lost, her gaze flickering around her as if to search for a light.
"Daniel," was the name that she was muttering. Then it went from that to "D."
She rise her arm to the hand that was in front of her. She caught it. It's warm.
"D...!" she held the hand tighter, "D... Take me home."
In the dark, D smiled.
I have waited for this day too long, he thought. I will wake her in the morning and hold her hand so that the first thing she sees everyday will be me. All those things are arranged just for her. For Rose, my only sunshine. The only thing you have to do is just lie on me happily.
D held Rose's hand and kissed it, once, twice.
He did what he said. He would sit by the bedside of Rose and held her hand until she blink her eyes open everyday so that the first thing she sees is him. He would make the breakfast for her, although he had never learned how to cook. He would wake up in the middle of the night to check if she have kicked her blanket on the floor or not.
He would be worried like death was coming when she got hurt. He'd make all kinds of surprises just for her. He would do anything that she says— anything.
He thought she loved her back.
Then she slapped him saying she have a boyfriend and he's the last person she'll ever like.
"Talking about my past life... It was nothing but endless missions and killing. Then you came, Rose. You came like a shine from the sun and invaded my darkness. So, why...? If you already pulled my out of the darkness, then why would you push me back into there?!" D laughed, "Why are you trying to run away from me every single moment?! I'll chain you up if I have to, it's what you deserve! You have made me crazy..."
There's no gentleness in D's eyes anymore. Desperate was what's in it.
More hypnosis, he thought. More will do.
Then will come torture.
