It had been a few weeks since graduation and soon the acceptance letters would be coming in. The good thing about everyone becoming so eco-friendly is that they won't send the letters home, they email you. My parents will not open the letter before me and my dad will not find out about my fashion designing obsession.
I had grown really close to Arun and honestly it freaked me out because I really needed to focus at school for the next two years.
Also, things at home were great, really great.
Dad would come home in a good mood, in fact, he's been home for over two months now and no one got beef! We started going out more often, mom's more happy too! Everything is great and that is my worst nightmare.
It's not that I'm pessimistic. It's just that whenever everything is great something bad happens you know? So I'm anxiously waiting for that something to happen.
It's summer vacation, what can go wrong? I don't know really, but I'm terrified.
Arun: did you check for the acceptance letters?
Me: Nothing yet..
Arun: Can you check mine?
Me: yup
It's odd that we became this close, because I tried everything I could to not make anything of this.
I logged into college portal with his username and password and checked if he had gotten in.
Me: nope not yet...
Arun: hmm... you wanna go to the mall with the others later today?
Me: sure what time?
Arun: I'm just at Ayesha's dance practice, whenever that finishes I'll text you and we can go like an hour after that?
Me: cool
Arun: I'll pick you up?
Me: dad's home!
Arun: I will not pick you up!
I chuckle.
The door bell rings and I expect someone downstairs to get it.
"Samaira!!" My dad calls from downstairs.
"jee (yes)" I say walking towards the stairs.
Can't have your parents wait.
"There's a package for you. Go sign at the door" My dad says picking up a phone call.
"Good morning" the FedEx dude says, flashing me a smile.
I smile back and mumble a 'morning'
I sign on the tablet thing he has and say thank you, because I am a well raised brown girl.
"Have yourself a nice day" He says a little too cheery.
"You too bro, you too" mumble shutting the door.
"Kuch order kiya ta?" my dad says over my shoulder, frightening me. (did you order something)
"Ah!" I say almost dropping the package. "No.. I don't think so?" I say confused.
"hmm kohlo?" he says suspiciously. (open it)
This is it guys, this is what will make my dad flip his shit.
I undo the packaging nervously. I see a card shoved on the side and hope my dad did not see it. I'm greeted with a couple of clothes and a monkey stuffed animal that says happy birthday on it. There is a bunch of jewelry. Traditional pakistani/indian jhumke and a nose ring. There's a purse and a few other things.
