*Olivia's POV*
"Apophis!" Paris shouted from somewhere.
Oh, of course. We just have to be attacked by one of the major Egyptian gods. Damn it. How in hell are we going to defeat this thing?
Apophis wrapped himself around the second pyramid, and laughed at us. Don't even ask me to describe how a snake laughs, because it's just... Let's leave it at disturbing.
"You think you can defeat me you worthless mortals?" Apophis chuckled.
"Oh yes we can.! I shouted, brandishing my staff.
Focusing my willpower and emotions, I sent a scorching golden red fire at Apophis, channeling order and truth, since he was the god of chaos and darkness. Apophis screamed, a horrible sound. Then he fell to the ground.
Angelyn immediately darted forward, seizing the opportunity. She leaped up, ready to stab the great snake with her new spear. But Apophis was tricky. As soon as she was in the height of her jump, he swallowed her in one gulp.
"That's right. Try and defeat me now, you puny mortals." Apophis said.
*Elijah's POV*
Far down below me, everyone who could fight was trying their best to defeat Apophis, and free Angelyn. It was obvious that they would fail.
Even if I would have been an optimist, instead of faking it for most of my life, I doubt that I could be one now. Certain experiences will change a person... Funny how that is.
We've got to do something. Now. If we don't do something immediately, Angelyn will die a horrible death.
"Myrtle." I said to Myrtle, who was floating beside me.
"I get it. We're supposed to be dead, so if we kill ourselves for the second time near him..." She responded.
"Exactly. He'll be banished for a while. We've done nothing this whole trip. Let's help, even if it will end us."
"And at least, we'll still have each other..." Myrtle whispered.
"...even in death." I finished.
Myrtle smiled at me, her eyes shining through her glasses. I grabbed her hand, and we hurtled through the air towards Apophis.
*Olivia's POV*
I heard the battle cry of a boy and a girl, and I looked up. Elijah and Myrtle. And what are they doing? I suddenly realized what was happening.
"No!" I screamed.
When they did... Angelyn would be saved... but the price! Could this be a lingering crush on her from Elijah? No there's Myrtle...
"Stop it!" I yelled, both to my own brain, and to Elijah and Myrtle.
Other cries similar to mine echoed amount the pyramids, but to no avail. Elijah and Myrtle ignored everyone, and shot straight towards Apophis. Apophis himself tried to avoid them, but he couldn't make it in time.
With one last smile at each other, Elijah and Myrtle plunged into the chaos snake's gaping maw. A few seconds later, a responding boom echoed among the three pyramids. Then there was a wave a darkness, and the world suddenly distorted.
Apophis hissed "You'll pay for this..." As he vanished. Then, where the chaos snake had been lying when he vanished, Angelyn suddenly appeared, and then crumpled to the ground.
Paris ran up to her, and performed CPR. By the time he was finished, everyone else had arrived. Angelyn coughed, then sat up, very much alive.
*Paris's POV*
"Angelyn! Oh Angelyn... I thought you were dead..." I wailed, cradling her.
"So you actually do care." She whispered, still weakened by the ordeal.
I kissed her once, then looked up at everyone else.
"Even though, I'm so grateful that Angelyn is alive, was it really the only way for them to sacrifice themselves?" I asked.
"I think it was," Vade said, pacing. "It was obvious that none of our attacks were going to effect that monster. Tell me Paris, would you rather have your girlfriend, or the person who dated her previously, and his girlfriend?"
"Angelyn! I would always choose her. But... I wouldn't want to sacrifice either!" I yelled.
"Of course you wouldn't. I don't think anyone would want anyone in this group to die." Olivia added.
"Except maybe for Nionnien. She's a violent one." Draco laughed.
Nionnien punched him, but it still was good to see a little humor, no matter how dark. We could all use a little laughter in our lives at this point and time.
Elijah and Myrtle may have saved Angelyn and defeated Apophis, but they also unintentionally healed the rifts between most everyone at least somewhat.
Grief and tragedy brings all of our opposing personalties together. We may have clicked back when we still had a school, but the truth is, in real life, or whatever this is, we don't get along well at all. Which may be a good thing. It does prevent someone from acting as a leader all the time. But it definitely isn't without it's bad sides.
As we all settled down for the night, deciding to camp a short distance off from the pyramids. We all used the basic tents, besides Vade, who used magic to create a stylish RV for himself. He offered it to Olivia as well, but she is a bit humbler, and turned his offer down.
As we settled down for the night, Nionnien keeping watch, I couldn't help but wonder what had happened to Elijah and Myrtle after they killed themselves. Since they were already ghosts, something different must have happened. At least... Their sacrifice wasn't without purpose.
