It's been two months since Orlando and I spoke to each other. Daddy out smarted the both of us and caught us after the first week. I knew he wouldn't fall for it but I wanted to believe it would so that I could be with him. It was a week in to it when he caught us; I guess i was too loud sneaking out or he came to check on me. What ever the case was he followed me down to the lake and over heard us talking about skipping out on town. He snatched Orlando up and started beating him. The noise woke a few neighbors ups and they called the police. They let daddy go but made Orlando stay for three days. He hasn't spoke to me since. I can't help but wonder if it's because he was afraid of putting me through more fights with Daddy or was it because he was upset with me. This spanish girl, Leigha moved into the neighborhood. Shes beautiful, she has long chestnut brown hair and hazel eyes. Nice full pink lips and a thick body frame. Jewels scribbled in a notebook before Reds came into her room.
"You didn't hear me call you !" Reds asked gripping her up by her hair.
"NO!" She screamed trying to free her hair.
"Open your gotdamn ears! I bet you if that spic was callin' you, you woulda heard him!" Reds yelled throwing her face first into the wall.
She caught herself before her face could hit the wall. "I'm sorry! I couldn't hear you over the music..."
"Just get out and don't bring your sorry ass home!" Reds said dragging her to the door.
"Daddy please! I'm sorry!" Jewels yelled before the door closed in her face.
"What's wrong?" A sweet familiar voice asked helping her to her feet.
"I've gotta find some where else to stay. Thanks but I've gotta get going now." Jewels said without turning to him. She could tell that he was standing with Leigha,
"What's with you allof' a sudden ?" Orlando asked with a heavy accent.
"What's with me? No what's with you!" Jewels snapped. " We haven't spoken in two months!"
"Reds has a restraining order against me!" Orlando answered agrily spinning her around to face him.
"So who is she!" Jewels asked pushing her self from his grip.
"She has a name. I knew she was like the rest of them!"
"Who is she !"
"Her name is Leigha. she moved here two months ago."
"Are you fucking her?" Jewels ask feeling relentless. She had to know if everything she was feeling for him was a lie.
"Predonme!" Leigha exploxed in anger.
" Uno momento Leigha por favor." Orlando said in a soft sexy voice that no girl could resist. Leigha stormed off making her way to the lake.
"We fucked a couple of times but it didn't mean anything." Orlando said holding on to her by the arm.
"Did it mean anything when we did it?" Jewels said with tears in her eyes.
"It meant the world to me."
"So why are you using her like that."
"I'm not using her. Everytime we've done it, she wanted to."
"Why? I thought you loved me and nothing Daddy could do would seperate us."
"He broke four of my ribs. And they said if I violated they restraining order I'd end up like Ricky. I can't do that to my madre."
"Are you with her?" Jewels said closing her eyes tight as tears pushed through.
"We're not sure what we are. Shes staying with me and my mom. They beat her dad to death outside of his job. She gets it Gem. Lo siento."
" She gets it? Ha and I don't"
"People don't try to kill you on the daily because of you skin color Joya !"
"But I know the disrespect. You have no clue what it's like to be me!"
"NO I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE ACCEPTED!"
"I accept you for you and if you meant all those sweet things you said we wouldn't be having this conversation." Jewels said snatching her arm away.
"Joya lo siento." Orlando said sweetly.
"I don't know what you're saying."
"Sorry. I said I'm sorry Gem."
"Don't be. I just feel stupid.. I feel like a fool because I thought you out of all people understood me. I have to go remember I don't have anywhere to stay." Jewels said walking away.
"You can come with me." Orlando called after.
"I'd rather not."
"Jewels!" Reds called with slurred speach.
"Comin' daddy!" She yelled running passed Orlando. He couldn't believe how badly he messed up and couldn't help but wonder if this was the end. When he got down to the lake, Leigha was skinny dipping in the spot him and Jewels first made love.
"You love her... don't you?" Leigha asked coming out the lake.
"It's complicated." Orlando said taking a seat to watch the water drip down her body and the sunlight reflect or her radiant light brown skin. Her long brown hair was still dripping wet but curlier and shorter.
"So what am I till you figure out that you need her?" She asked toweling off.
"It's not like that."
"Then what is it like Orlando. It slightly sickens me that you could love someone like her." She said taking the towel off and drying her hair.
"What is with you Leigha? You don't know the first thing about her. what do you mean someone like her?"
"Her Dad has tried to kill you on several occassions because he's a racist. What makes you think she's any different? She didn't even actknowledge me standing there."
"Watch your mouth Leigha! She's not a racist." Lando snapped. "Cual es tu problema?"
"Nada pendejo!" She screamed as she begin to put her clothes on.
"Lo siento mami. please don't be mad. She's nothing like everyone else around here." He said turning her around then kissing her on the lips.
She pushed away slowly feeling the void in her heart. "Then why are you wasting my time?"
"Dont be like that." He said kissing her once then enticing her to eventful afternoon by the lakeside.
