I did the only thing I knew how to do; remain silent and still. If I acted up now or refused, the beatings would be much, much worse. I walked upstairs with Ms. Drew following closely behind. I walked over to my small duffle and put in the small amount of clothes I had. I was tiny for my age so finding clothes that looked thirteen was literally impossible. All of my clothes come from the kids section so they look like clothes for a seven year old, but as long as I have something to wear I’m good.

Ms. Drew sat beside me on my bed, “Em-Rose, just try to get to know them before making any assumptions.”

I nodded my head slowly. She walked out and allowed me to finish packing. I placed my old doll in the duffle when there was a knock at the door.

A man with blonde hair came in my room, “Are you ready, Love?”

I didn’t move the slightest bit. He got the point and walked over to pick up my duffle. He put his hand on the small of my back as I jumped. He looked at me with a sad expression and removed his hand. I walked slowly behind him down the steps.

The rest of the boys were talking to Ms. Drew.

“Goodbye, Em-rose.” She came in to give me hug as she whispered, “Give them a chance.”

Liam came closer to me and I tightened up. He placed his hand out for me to take it, but I refused. Ms. Drew walked me to their limo. WAIT WHAT? They have a limo! I freaked out. . . in my head.

The boys climbed in the limo like it was absolutely nothing at all. I climbed in between Zayn and Liam.

“Em-rose, we live in England, so we have to head to the airport and fly there.”

No! Really? I thought we were going to walk there!

I simply nodded my head.

“Are you hungry?” Liam asked

I shook my head no as he sighed and turned away.

“Em-rose, you can talk to us. We won’t hurt you.”

Ha! They all say that! Well guess what? I don’t believe you!

“Em-rose? Em-rose?” Zayn waved his hand in my face as I flinched, “Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

Ugh. Great job, Em-rose! You have managed to make yourself look weak five minutes after you met these people! Well actually it was like thirty minutes ago. Shut up, head!! Shouldn’t we be at the airport by now?

As if on cue we drove by the Jacksonville city airport right by the creepy medusa statue. (Yes, there is a medusa statue at the airport. Not kidding. Look it up).

We pulled up in the big circle where people were unloading their cars. Screaming was coming from every direction. People were pounding on the windows with their fists. Signs were held up saying ‘marry me Louis’ and ‘Kiss me Zayn’. I looked at the boys fear clearly showing on my face. We stepped out of the van to hear screaming girls all around us. Everyone stared at me with worried expressions and I just stared right on back.

I was terrified; scratch that. I was about to pee myself.

“Em-Rose, stay close to Zayn. Ok?”

I nodded my head. The boys stepped out of the car and as the door opened the screams got louder. I was about 99% sure that was absolutely impossible. Zayn stepped out first sending me a nervous glance. I followed also stepping close. People were clawing at me and screaming in my ear. I was so scared that I actually grabbed Zayn’s hand for all of my life.

He looked down at me as tears brimmed in my eyes. Then he did something that I least expected, but was extremely thankful for. He bent down and swung me onto his hip as I clung onto him for dear life. I started shaking and full on crying. I buried my head in his shoulder as people grabbed at us. The screams came to a sudden stop as I felt cold air surround me.

“Zayn, is she alright?” I picked up my head to see I was surrounded by the guys.

“You want to get down, baby?” I didn’t want to. I was still a little freaked out, so as a sign I buried my head back in his neck. “It’s alright love. You don’t have to.”

Good because I wasn’t planning on it.

We continued walking through security and Louis took off my shoes as I held onto Zayn. Zayn put me down so I could walk through the scanner. Then he came through and picked me back up.

“Are you hungry Em?” I shook my head no, “It’s a long flight, love. How about you have just a little bit?”

We walked over to the Starbucks and sat down, “What would you like to eat?”

The menu was unfamiliar and I didn’t really know what most of the stuff was. I shrugged my shoulders and Louis ordered me a hot chocolate and apple fritter. I sat on Zayn’s lap as I ate.

“Em, do you have any comfier clothes than that dress? It is a long flight.” I shook my head no.

“Niall, Harry, and I will go find you something and be right back.”  Louis got up and Niall and Harry followed him.

Liam broke the silence, “Em-Rose it’s perfectly ok to talk around us. I swear we will never hurt you.”

“They all say that.” I said barely above a whisper. I small tear streamed down my face as I remembered what people had done to me.

It wasn’t fair. I never did anything to them. So, why me? It didn’t make sense. They ruined my life. Over and over again I would trust someone and they would betray me. They turned on me till I learned never to trust.

“Don’t cry, love.” Zayn pulled me closer to his chest.

Right then the rest of the boys came over with about ten bags. I thought they were getting one thing. I quickly dried my tears.

“Well we weren’t sure what you would like so we got a variety.” Niall said.

Liam stood up and walked over to the bags of clothes and pulled some things out; one direction t-shirt, One Direction onesie, I <3 Harry Styles necklace, British flag yoga pants, shamrock onesie, Nike shorts, jeans, and a ‘Zayn’s girl’ shirt. I giggled.

“My personal favorite is the shamrock onesie.” Niall laughed.

I ran over to the bags and grabbed the One Direction onesie with the Harry Styles necklace.

“I don’t want you to go alone.” Zayn called as I started running to the bathroom. I stuck my tongue out at him.

I ran into the bathroom stall and zipped up the onesie. I clipped the necklace around my neck and put my hair in a single braid down my back. I put on the slippers Louis bought me and ran out of the bathroom. I ran straight to Zayn and he picked me up.

“You look adorable. Now let’s go catch our flight.”

We walked through this tunnel with airport security to a private jet! They climbed up the ladder and inside was beautiful. There were six soft chairs and one long couch that stretched across the side of the plane. In the back hung a curtain that lead to a room with six small bunk beds lined against the wall. The boys walked straight back there as I followed. Zayn put my duffle under the bed and did the same with his.

“We will land in London in about eight hours.” Eight stinkin hours of boredom, “It will be six in the morning when we land so try and sleep.”

Zayn walked into the main area and plopped on the large white couch. I sat in one of the white chairs trying to find a comfortable position. I guess Zayn saw because he called me over.

“Come here, Love.” He called.

I cautiously walked toward him fearing I did something wrong and he would turn on me. I took one step at a time looking in his eyes for some sign that he was angry or about to hurt me. It came to my surprise that I couldn’t see anything there. He was probably trying to trick me then BAM out of nowhere he would hurt me. He slowly raised his right hand and I knew what was about to happen. I fell to my knees and wrapped my arms around my head and cried.

“I’m sorry, Sir. I didn’t mean to anger you. I really didn’t. Please give me another chance. Don’t hurt me, please?” The last sentence came out more like a question.

I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around me and I tensed as I prepared for him to hit me harder for complaining. The hit never came though. I had my hands covering my eyes.

“Shh. I will never hurt you. I promised. Didn’t I? Open your eyes. I got you and I won’t let you go.” He cooed. Then he began slowly singing.

I’ll keep you safe
Try hard to concentrate
Hold out your hand
Can you feel the weight of it
The whole world at your fingertips
Don’t be, don’t be afraid
Our mistakes they were bound to be made
But I promise you I’ll keep you safe

You’ll be an architect so pull up your sleeves
And build a new silhouette
In the skylines up ahead
Don’t be, don’t be afraid
Our mistakes they were bound to be made
But I promise you I’ll keep you safe
I’ll keep you safe

Darkness will be rewritten
Into a work of fiction, you’ll see
As you pull on every ribbon
You’ll find every secret it keeps
The sound of the branches breaking under your feet
The smell of the falling and burning leaves
The bitterness of winter
Or the sweetness of spring
You are an artist
And your heart is your masterpiece
And I’ll keep it safe

Dismiss the invisible

By giving it shape
Like a clockmaker fixes time
By keeping the gears in line
Don’t be, don’t be afraid
God knows that mistakes will be made
But I promise you I’ll keep you safe

As you build up your collection
Of pearls that you pulled from the deep
A landscape more beautiful than anything that I’ve ever seen
The sound of the branches breaking under your feet
The smell of the falling and burning leaves
The bitterness of winter
Or the sweetness of spring
You are an artist
And your heart is your masterpiece
And I’ll keep it safe

Somewhere along the way I fell asleep to the soft slow voice.
