/the next day/"Niklaus is not here. Come." Elijah spoke softly as he led me to the piano to play for him. Apparently Klaus spilled the beans about me playing freely and Elijah insisted I play to lift our spirits.
"You're something else, Elijah." I muttered as I sat down on the bench. My head turned up to look at him. "What should I play? If you say my choice I will snap your neck." I threatened, knowing him.
He seemed to be in thought for a moment.
"I've got a song for you. Let me retrieve it." Elijah held up a finger signaling for me to wait then he zoomed off. My fingers touched the keys, but never playing. Elijah placed sheet music in front of me with a blank face. "It's a well loved piece." He stated simply.
"Well, okay then." I began playing the intro to the piece called 'Beloved'. It didn't say the composer's name, but looked a bit old. It was a very slow paced song, but played beautifully. My fingers lingered over the notes and I got lost in the music itself. I loved the different parts of the song that were emphasized, because some melodies were played more often.
My mind didn't realize I had been at the last note until a quiet applause sounded from behind me.
"Did you write this Elijah?" I asked and turned around on the bench to see Elijah standing beside Niklaus. My everything dropped as I knew he set me up for this.
"I did write it. You played it well and I'm sure my brother agrees. Why don't you two talk about it, okay?" In a flash he was gone. I scoffed and began to walk towards the door but I was stopped by him. I tried to dodge his body, but he only stopped me several times more.
"Niklaus, move." I was over the whole situation already and he was only pursuing it more. He hadn't said a word yet and I didn't know nor did I care if he would. "Get out of my way!" I shouted, avoiding eye contact.
We carried on like this for a few minutes. Me yelling and him saying nothing, but always stopping my moves to the door. Finally, I had had enough and sat back down at the piano. We drowned in silence for a few more minutes. I'm stubborn and fine with it, so was Klaus, and I didn't know who'd break first.
He hadn't sat down like I did. He only stood and softly tapped his fingers against his jeans. I turned to the piano and just as I was about to play, he spoke up.
"We've committed countless atrocities over the years. Both you and I. We've both had our reasons behind it, but we rarely apologize for them, because we know our reasons should suffice enough." He spoke lowly.
I sucked on my lower lip for a moment. He was protecting himself and taking no responsibility over the matter. It infuriated me when all he had to do was admit he mad a bad choice. He wouldn't even have to say sorry, just...admit it. Let's be honest, a Mikaelson? Apologize? In a thousand more years...maybe.
"Tell me your reasons then." I demanded. I refused to meet his eyes.
"She was trying to save him!" He spoke aggressively. I let my nails dig into the bench angrily. He was riled up and so was I now.
"You know damn well once that White Oak was in his heart she could do nothing while he burned." I gritted through my teeth which were practically cemented together to take out my anger.
"She brought him back from the dead once before after I had done that. What makes you so sure she couldn't have done it again?" Niklaus questioned almost in a cold and teasing tone. I shook my head and thought about my words.
"Do you really believe that? Or is that just what you tell yourself so that you can justify your wrongs? Did we not have another White Oak stake on hand if that did happen?" I persisted, wondering if I'd get a proper reaction. I did when I heard his heart rate slow drastically.
He had calmed himself down...he knew I was right. I rose from the bench and walked towards him until we were a few feet away from each other. His eyes seemed to dart everywhere but me.
"I don't know what that girl is capable of, Blaire. I was protecting everyone in the situation by doing what I did. Killing her would have caused a problem such as the one we're dealing with now, so instead of crushing her skull I bit her. Which could easily be cured with blood, but I can bet on everything that you didn't think of such a thing." As he spoke he caught onto himself and proved his point. He was correct...I didn't think of how the bite could be healed if she had been given blood back. It stunned me for a minute.
"Nik...what you did, while it had a solution, it was not necessary." His blue eyes met my brown eyes in a silent understanding. He opened his mouth and I had hoped it was something to give me the closure I wanted.
"When you call me that your heart skips a beat and I can't help but wonder why." He whispered, bringing his hands to my waist, and pulling us close together. I was in a trance for a few moments. Our noses brushing against each other. Our lips millimeters apart. Our hands on each other's bodies...slowly roaming.
However, the trance wasn't something I wanted to be in anymore.
"See you around, Niklaus." I said almost silently. Side stepping him, I walked around the corner, and straight out the door. He was a dangerous person and he showed no mercy. He had the chance to make things right, but he only insisted he was correct. That's what he always thought.
The Mikaelson way or the highway.
