"Then that's it?" Elizabeth managed to ask calmly, Meliodas nodded, his eyes fell to the ground; it was only now that Elizabeth noticed his eyes were different than they were in all those flash backs she's had, they were colorful! Full of life and excitement! Like he had a drive, making him pull through till he had succeeded his dreams. But now, in comparison, it was dull and dazed. Like everything that drived him, vanished and he was simply hanging by a single string.
Elizabeth sighed, she once again was only looking out for herself, not him. How selfish of her. "What is it you want, Meliodas?" Meliodas gave Elizabeth a puzzled look, the silverette only gave him a warm smile in return though, "If you didn't have our parents to hold you back, or all those other distractions.. What is it you truly desire?" She added in clarification, the blonde boy never moved away from where he sat with his head on her shoulder, instead he kept staring into her big blue eyes; as if searching for something, the same look he's had when looking at her since they met again in classroom A-2— like a longing. But for what?
"Dunno, I'd probably say it would be for when you look at me, it's not so curious as it is now. But when you look at me, you already know me." He answered, Elizabeth almost immediately looked away when he said that, a pang of guilt rushing through her. Meliodas resituated himself so that even with her looking away they'd still be able to make eye contact, a position that was almost the same as pinning her to the doorframe she was leaning on. "What about you?" He inquired, his head tilting a bit in a almost inhuman way.Elizabeth closed her eyes in thought, closely pondering this question, she knew the obvious answer, "To be whole, but it's not about me. It can be about you too, Meliodas. You don't have to always do things for other's all the time, you can be selfish for once too." The silver haired lass pleaded, but Meliodas didn't visibly seem to have taken what she said to heart, "I'm far too selfish, Elizabeth. I shouldn't even be this close to you, I'm only ruining your chances as a great musician." He stated a matter-of-factly, Elizabeth bit her lip, "But.. There has to be a way to still be able to be friends." She said so soft you'd have to strain your ears to hear, "We can be, but we'll just have to stay as that. acquaintances." The boy said before standing up and extending his hand to her, "We'll be late for breakfast, come on." He said with a warm smile, and honestly, Elizabeth found herself loving that smile. "I can deal with that." She agreed and allowed him to help her up. Together, they walked to the dining hall.
"You know, I heard that she has a sugar daddy in Camelot." "What? Seriously? Ugh, so gross." In the distance Elizabeth could hear, in fact if she past by close enough to a table that stunk of enough expensive perfume she could pick up on their gossip; about her. Elizabeth, sure she was bothered by herself being the current target. But honestly, where did all those rumors even come from? It was starting to unnerve her. "They're just a bunch of bitches, Elizabeth. Ignore them." Diane, sitting in the chair across from her snarled, she knew Diane was trying to keep in her anger so she over looked the swearing. King sighed, obviously bothered as well, "People like them just feel like they're the worst so they always act like they're the best." King stated, earning a jab from the brunette next to him, "I smell a Marina and the diamonds quote. Has someone been listening to my playlist again~?" King blushed in embarrassment, "Y-You said I could, though!" Diane chuckled, "I know I did~""S'up." Ban greeted as he joined them at the table, Eliane closely behind. "Heya, Ban." Arthur replied, his mouth full of his grilled cheese sandwich. "Chew you freak." The freakled redhead next to him laughed softly, "Hmm? Whats chewing? Hmmmm???" Arthur mock asked, opening his mouth more to gross out the girl. Among the chaos Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh, this is what having friends is like?
"Okay, I don't think I know everyone's names." Elizabeth announced, silencing the table. "Well, I'm Rinya, I'm Merlin's little sister so I'm only visiting." The red head stated, under close inspection Elizabeth noticed they had the same big brown eyes. "And the girl with black hair who sat with us last night is my girlfriend, Guila." Gowther added, Elizabeth raised a confused eyebrow, "Is she not sitting with us today?" Gowther shook his head sadly, "I don't want to put her in a suffocating relationship, you know? She's sitting with her friend Jericho today." He explained, "I never liked her." Eliane grumbled, Ban pat her on the head to sooth her down before she made a decision she'd(wouldn't) regret. Elizabeth glanced over at the table Guila was sitting at and was surprised to see half the girls were watching her. "Don't let it bother you." Rinya's voice snapping Elizabeth from her suspicious daze, the silverette smiled, "Yeah.. Thanks." the two shared a brief smile before Meliodas returned with a tray of Mac and cheese, he say down at the table next to Arthur, on the opposite side of Rinya, "Say, Arthur, you're currently rooming alone, yeah?" Elizabeth's blood went cold, she knew where this was going, but she already agreed so she couldn't back out now.No matter how much she wished she could.
Arthur nodded, "Yeah, there wasn't enough seniors, or one that fit into my music class." The ginger replied simply, Meliodas smiled, "Let's be roommates then!" the blonde's announcement made both King, Diane and Ban take a spit take. "WHAT???" The three exclaimed in union, leaving Rinya and Arthur to flash them confused expressions. Elizabeth smiled at them weakly, "Don't worry about it, we've decided we just weren't a good fit." Elizabeth explained, King gave her a pitied look while Diane seemed to flood with anger, mouthing 'we'll talk about this later'.
Ban rested his chin on the palm of his hand, "Ya sure that's what you guys want?" For once his dark tone held a serious sting, unlike the usual Ban who'd sing rubbish. Eliane picked up on this too, she frowned at the two, "This isn't what makes a healthy relationship." She said matter-of-factly, Elizabeth turned a lovely shade of amber at this comment, "It.. I-it's not like that.." She slowly said, hoping and failing to say articulately without stammering. Eliane raised a brow, "Really? I had thought that, you know, you guys were in a relationship." The silverette shook her head, "Nope, just friends." Meliodas managed to say before Elizabeth could. Man did it hurt. After that Breakfast was had in awkward silence.
After class Elizabeth rise from her seat and put away her violin back into her locker. As she walked out a hand grabbed her and pulled her into the Ladie's room, "What was that??" Her attacker demanded, of course it was no mystery who that attacker was. "It's okay, Diane. It's better thus way." Diane didn't look convinced, "It's not okay!" She spat, angered by their whole ordeal— why couldn't they just see they loved each other??! Elizabeth opened her mouth to reply but someone spoke before she did, "Sorry, when was being miserable better? When was hiding behind a empty smile better?" Rinya asked, her voice was soft, but in those brown eyes Elizabeth could see a wildfire. Elizabeth hung her head in shame, what could she even say to that, they at that point knew her better than she herself. "It's complicated, this is the only way to protect Meliodas. I can't be thinking about myself all the time.." Elizabeth breathed out with a sad shiver, Rinya patted her softly on the shoulder, "This can't be the only option, if all it does is make you unhappy how can that really make him happy?" Rinya argued gently, trying nit to upset her but still act as a voice of reason. Elizabeth shrugged, unable to come up with a response. "You know, we're here for you. Surely we can come up with something together." Diane told Elizabeth, smiling brightly. Elizabeth smiled back before turning away, "I promised I'd call my sister again, see you." The silverette said, then left.
Diane sighed, the reality was, she knew she hadn't made progress. "They just need to talk it out, you know?" Diane said to Rinya who was reading something on her phone, too engulfed with the story to notice Diane talking to her. "Hey, Rinya." The brunette urged, but no response.
"Rinya." Nothing.
"RINYA!" "What?" The redhead asked startled by Diane's sudden outburst, "S-Sorry... The stories' really good." Rinya replied sheepishly, Diane raised her brow, "Oh? What's it about?" She asked curiously, fan-fiction was something that they both liked and was a common interest of theirs so it was natural to share fanfics. (remember character 4? How Diane was looking at something on her phone? It was fanfic) Rinya grinned mischievously, "These two are currently fighting so their friends locked them together in a closet till they made up, oh the angst!" The redhead squealed like the fangirl she was, "Awww that's so cute—" Diane's thought process came to a perfect stop. And with the small piece of the story Diane was given by Rinya a terribly evil and romantically pure idea, or better yet, master plan came to mind. Perhaps, Meliodas and Elizabeth just needed a little, oh I don't know nudge?Sorry for the short chapter! I thought here would be the perfect place to end it! I hope you like the picture I drew for this chapter~ Okay don't kill me, yes, Rinya is a oc. But hey, I needed another character to balance out all the single people. She won't play a big role, sorry!! (╯3╰)
Welp tell me what ya thought etc.
