Jeremy's P.O.V

It's the general consensus of the school that Brooke and Chloe are the hottest couple. No one knows what it is for sure, I think it's because they're the hottest girls around. Others theorize that something about a lesbian couple is oddly attractive. Not that it mattered to me, I have Michael.

We've been best friends since the day he gave me chocolate milk in exchange for my peanut butter sandwich. It was truly a great bonding moment, he squished the sandwich and threw pieces of it at those who harassed me, I shot milk out of my nose from laughter. One kid however got hit by the sandwich by accident and started crying. I felt a bit bad for them but Michael just told me they were overdramatic, which I totally believed. Still don't know who that  kid was, I may never know.

Yes we're that stereotypical couple that were best friends forever before we ended up together. Although there wasn't that awkward moment where one confesses and waits anxiously for the other to respond. You were just told that this was it. And no one bothered protesting because they felt right.

But today... Something wasn't right.

The hallways were their usual crowded mess, mainly because everyone held hands with someone. But the crowded mass of bodies were centered around a particular space. The only thing clueing me in was the whispers of people drowning out the noises of whatever they were looking at.

"Are they actually just a girl PMSing? I know their non binary but still..." mocked one of them.

"Looks like High School has finally broken them" echoed another.

"Where's their match? Shouldn't they be here to-" someone chimed in before being silenced. "They don't have one" their friend whispered, they weren't very good at whispering. This was Jenna we're talking about, girl can't keep her mouth shut.

I just stood there wondering what to do, Michael seemed to have disappeared. Probably went to the bathroom to wait out the huge crowd. He never was a fan of gossip.

I was about to do something very stupid.

I pushed my way through the group, apologizing and stuttering my way towards the center. There was someone sobbing on the floor, why the fuck was everyone just standing around?! Seriously it seemed very rude and just plain mortifying. I could see their head turning slightly to see who had broken rank.

"Hey you doing oka-" I began to ask before they clutched onto me with a huge, and tight, hug. I have no idea who this person is. But it seemed wrong to just pry someone who's now clinging to you like a life preserver and sobbing their eyes out off. So I let them, didn't know what else to do.

Who the fuck are they? And why are they hugging me of all people?
