I heard the gunshot and waited. I waited a full second before I realized that I hadn't gotten shot. If I didn't get shot.. Then who did? I forced myself to open my eyes. I feared it was Sammy who had been shot. I opened my eyes and saw Gabe on the ground surrounded by a pool of the crimson color of blood. I looked at the person who was behind him. It was another one of my friends from school. Her name was Madison. She was holding a pistol that was still aimed at Gabe.

"M-Madison?" I stuttered. How do the people from school know where we are? I watched Madison as she put the gun in her belt and looked over at Sammy and I.

"Hello Tara. Hi Samantha." Madison said calmly. No mater what we said, she's always called Sammy by her full name.

"Hi Madison." Sammy replied giving a slight wave.

"How did you know where we were?" I asked quietly.

"Oh. News leaked that you were on your way to Canada. Ya know, Police think you murdered your own mother. I know that's not true. I knew that wasn't you. When the news came on saying how there was a death near here somewhere. I knew you had to be here. So, I've just been searching for you guys in my family's private helicopter. That's when Gabe and his friends took over. They held me hostage. When they said they found you, I almost didn't believe them. That was- Until they started shooting at you guys." Madison stepped closer to us. I was still kind of weary.

"Then where is his friends?" Sammy asked pointing at Gabe.

"One of them died when the helicopter crashed. And i killed the other on my way over." Madison grinned.

"Okay.." I said. I backed up to where Sammy was.

"But seriously? Did you guys have to crash my chopper? My parents are gonna be so mad when they find out. I bet they already found out that I stole it. But when I come home without it.. Jeez." Madison started rambling on about if she were to get caught. I watched her as she spoke. I never really realized how pretty she looked. She had dark brown hair and hazel eyes. I noticed her head was bleeding. Probably from when the helicopter crashed, I thought.

"Well. We should be heading off." I heard Sammy say.

"I'm coming with you." Madison declared.

 "Why?" I asked quickly.

"Well, why not?" Madison asked smiling.

"But why do you want to come with us?" Sammy asked. I could tell she was kinda flustered about Madison's answer.

"Because I want to protect you guys. Plus, I've always wanted to be in a survival situation. I did bring money though. I dunno how long it'll last me though. I also brought this bag full of food and a bottle of water. Plus this gun and spare bullets." Madison's list went on and on. I forgot how much she liked to talk.

"Fine. you can come. But your not allowed to die on us." I said watching her yet again. So pretty...

"Yay!!!" Madison said with glee. "I won't let you guys down!" We grabbed our stuff and started walking. "So why are you guys running anyways? What's going on?" Madison broke the silence.

"Someone is after me. Someone from school. I don't know who they are, but I do know that she hates my guts." I said still walking and keeping my eyes forward. My eyes started to tear up as I remembered Mom, Dad, and Veronica.

"I might know who it is. There's only one person I know that hates you." Madison said softly.

 "Who?" Sammy asked.

"Kayla. Kayla Barns..." Madison replied softly, just barely a whisper.

"Of course.. Why didn't I think of her?" I whispered to myself.

"Oh my god." Sammy said. I could hear the horror and shock in her voice. I didn't blame her.

"What are we gonna do? " I asked. I obviously was talking to myself. But Sammy thought I was just asking in general.

"I don't know Tara.." Sammy then remained silent. We walked a bit faster and we talked of small things. Eventually everyone just walked along in silence.

"Girls! Hold it right there!" We all turned our heads to the voice. It was a police officer. We took a second and looked at each other and we all started running. We could hear the cop shouting behind us.

"Sammy, Madison! We might have to split up! If that's the case, then we all need to meet up at the border to Canada if we can't find each other before then!" I said over the sound of our feet hitting the ground.

"Are you crazy!?! If we split up, we have a higher chance of all of us getting killed. She'll surely kill all of us now, knowing that we know too much. I mean.. Is jail such a bad thing? We'd be safe there. I dunno about you, but I'd rather be arrested." Sammy slowed down a bit.

"But we did nothing wrong to be arrested!" I protested.

"The police don't know that. I'd rather be locked up than stay on the run from killers, Tara. We'd be safe." Sammy stopped running. Madison and I stopped too. The cop was alittle ways away, but we still didn't have much time.

"To be honest.. I agree with Sammy.. What do you choose Tara?" Madison asked me. I looked over at the police officer then behind me.. Freedom.. with a risk of death... Or prison with a risk of spending life.. Why is it so hard to choose? Of course I'd choose freedom.. But I also want to be protected. I looked over at the police officer. I needed to make my choice. And I had to make it now.
