I was sitting in the car and staring outside. The rain pattered and the sun was hiding behind a wall of big, grey clouds. It seemed like the world was about to go down.
Or at least my world.Mum was sitting next to me, humming to the song that the radio played right now. I heard it before, but I had no idea what the title was. Or even the artist.
I got my headphones out and searched for a playlist. It didn't took long and I was listening to "English Summer Rain" by Placebo.
Well, not just in England did the rain seem to last for ages.A few months passed since this day that destroyed my whole life. So much happened in this time.
Let's start from the beginning. The day after I caught Dad with Mona I stood at home and waited for my. I told Hayley to tell the teacher I threw up this morning and wouldn't be able to go to class today.
Mum came back around lunchtime. She brought pizza, but none of us could eat. I had to tell her everything I've seen yesterday, from the moment I parked in the drive way to the one I climbed out of the window.
Dad's car pulled in the drive way at six pm. We already brought Mum's stuff over to the guestroom. I could totally understand that she didn't want to sleep in this room, in this bed anymore.Mum and I were waiting in the living room when we heard the keys.
"Alex? Are you at home?" did he ask. Then he came in and he saw Mum sitting on the sofa right next to me. His face went pale and he seemed to be paralyzed."Hey darling," said Mum, stood up and went over to him. "Heard you had fun without me."
She seemed so calm, she even smiled. An I-know-what-you-did-so-don't-even-try-to-lie-smile."Ellie..."
He stopped. He seemed not to know what he should say.
"Ellie, it was a one time thing, I...""Liar," did I say quietly, but both of them heard me.
"I'm not as dumb as you are, apparentely, so tell me the truth or I'll throw your underwear out of the window. And your trunk will follow right after."
She was still calm, but her eyes were glittering furiously. I wouldn't have wondered if I saw flames in them.
"Answer me one question. Just one. Why? Why the hell?""I...I don't know."
He made a step back and fell down on the brown armchair I loved to read in when I was younger.
"It just happened. And then it happened again. I'm so sorry.""I know you are. When did it happen the first time? What have I done wrong to deserve this?"
"You've done nothing wrong! Ellie!"
He jumped up and tried to take her hand, but she pushed him back."DON'T YOU DARE TO TOUCH ME ASSHOLE."
Dad looked like a beaten dog, shocked and kinda afraid of Mum, even though he's much taller and stronger.
I've also been a bit shocked, because I never heard her talking like that before. But I'd probably say the same.Dad stumbled back into the armchair and buried his face in his hands. After a minute he looked back up. Mum was still standing in front of him, boiling with rage, while I was sitting on the sofa watching both of them, my arms crossed.
He sighed. "I'm so stupid. It was Mona. Do you remember the trip to Canada we made last year? You and Jim went to this boring museum and we stayed at the hotel. We drank a little too much and then she started to tease me and..."
"Eww," slipped out of my mouth. I mean, it's my Dad and I really don't want to have so many details."
"It happened. I'm so sorry. A week after we met again to talk about it, but this time we ended up in a toilet cabin of the restaurant we were in."
"Ewwww."
I repeated it more loudly."And then we started to meet, two or three times a month I guess."
Mum was still standing there and looking at him.
"Alex, give me the bag."
I got up and went into the hall to get a bag full of clothes we packed.
"You'll move your disgusting ass out of my house and won't come back until I ask you to, do you understand me?"I came back into the living room right when Dad stood up again. I decided to stay in the doorway so I won't interrupt them.
Dad tried to grab her hand, but she wouldn't let him.
"Ellie, I'm so sorry. Please don't do that. Please. I'd do everything for you.""You'd do everything but keep your dirty little fingers from my best friend. Okay. Thanks. "
"I told you, she started it!"
"Does that make ANYTHING better?!"
"Ellie, I love you..."
He grabbed Mum's left hand, pulled her over to him and tried to kiss her, but before he could Mum lunged and slapped him right in the face.
Then she pulled her hand away and yelled my name.
"ALEX."
I sprinted to her and gave her the bag. She took it and left the room. I heard her open the door and then something hit the way in front of the house. I bet it was the bag.
"I'd go now if I were you," said I to Dad, who was still palpating his face where Mum hit him. He just nodded and went.
Mum slammed the door after him and came back into the living room, her face was red like a tomato and she looked like she was going to explode any moment."I'm gonna make you a cup of tea," murmured I and was about to go, when something started to ring.
It was Dad's phone, that was laying in the armchair. I picked it up and read Mona's name on the display. Then I reached it Mum.She looked at it. Then she let it slip into an ugly vase that was standing on the small table next to her.
And then she threw the vase against the wall.-------------------------------
