Chapter 20

Olivia stopped at a red light fighting tears as she drove home. She needed to see Aleah just to know she was safe and sound. The case the squad had been working on was so similar to that of Aleah's, it broke her heart all over again.

As she sat waiting for the light to change she thought back to a time she was trying to make sure her daughter was okay, many years ago.

Olivia sat on the bench in the park clutching her coffee cup, as she watched a small group of kids play. By the corner of the play ground sat a girl with chocolate brown hair, and big green eyes. With band-aids on her knees she sat smiling to herself as she drew pictures in the sand. Aleah. "Why are we choosing to spend our lunch hour here exactly?" Her partner questioned as he sat down next to her.

"It's peaceful."

Elliots phone buzzed, "Yeah but now it's over, let's go Liv."
Olivia took one more look over at Aleah, before turning away.

Cars honking brought Olivia back to reality, she took her head and drove off.

When she arrived at home Aleah was sitting on the living room floor with pens and pencils spread all around her, headphones in her ears fully engrossed in the picture she was drawing.

Aleah sensed movement. She looked up and took out her headphones.

"You're home, is it that la- why are you crying?"

Liv shook her head but didn't say anything.

The teenager got up and walked over to her mother, pulling her in for a long hug.
