Hello Again Darling

'Everything alright Katherine?' Elena asked, interrupting my thoughts.

I looked up, trying not to glare at her. 'Hmm? Yeah, fine.'

She nodded. 'Your facial expression indicates worry.'

'I'm fine, really.' I gave her a light smile.

Actually, I was a bit anxious. It had been three days since I'd gotten Luke's number, but I was still trying to psych myself up to call him.

But in those three days, Nick and Elena had spent hours together.
It was becoming unbearable.

Screw it.

'Erm, Elena, if Nick asks, I've just gone for a quick break.' I told her.

She nodded and I left, heading for the private lab.

As soon as I was there, I took out my phone, and with shaking hands, I copied Luke's number onto my phone and tapped call.

He answered a few seconds later. 'Hello?'

I bit my lip as I heard that all too familiar charming, American accent that I used to love so much. 'Hi Luke.'

'Elena?'

'No.' I took a deep breath. My heart was racing. 'It's Katherine.'

There was silence on the line for a while. Then:

'Hello again darling.'

'Hi Luke.' I said quietly.

'It's been a while.' He said. I heard the smile in his voice.

'Yeah, it has.' I said casually.

There was a long pause.

'Why did you call me darling?' He asked eventually.

'I miss you Luke.' I tried to put as much emotion into my voice as possible. 'I need you.'

'Oh sweetheart. I miss you too.' He said.

'When your sister told me to stay away, it was the end of my world Luke.'

Don't vomit Katherine, don't vomit Katherine.

I heard him sigh. 'Same. I could have killed the stupid bitch for doing that. In the end, she killed herself, driven by hate for you. She's my sister. She shouldn't have hated you so much. The crash wasn't your fault.'

'I'm sorry for causing discord between you two.' I lied.

'It's fine. I forgave her long ago.' He said. 'Now I'm carrying on her work.'

'I want to see you.' I said.

'I'll text you my location, yeah?' He said. 'Just don't tell anyone. Our secret.'

I laughed. 'Of course. See you soon.'

Luke's POV

I couldn't believe it. When Katherine called me, and at first I thought it was Elena; that I'd somehow regained control over her, only to find out it was my ex girlfriend...

It all seemed too good to be true.

But it wasn't. And I was going to see my girl again, after all these years.

Katherine's POV

I walked into the lab where Luke was.
As soon as I saw him again, my heart began pounding. He was still as gorgeous as ever, and he'd aged well.

When he saw me enter, his face broke into a breathtaking smile. 'Hello darling.'

'Luke!' I ran over and threw myself into his waiting arms. I'd forgotten how nice it was to have his arms around me.

He kissed the top of my head. 'I love you.' He murmured.

'I love you too.'
