Chapter 12: First Day of Punishment
[ Avery's POV ]
4th day of school (Thursday). Dormitories. 6:30 A.M
I know what's going to happen this day. Today's the start of Madame Linde's punishment to the students who had been at the gang war yesterday. Tsk. It's so unlucky for those students to clean their assigned areas as a punishment cause believe me, malaki ang paaralang ito and that means that malaki rin ang kanilang dapat na trabahuin.
And they need to do that for the next three days which is today, Friday and Saturday. Earlier this day, Madame Linde had called me at her office and she told me na ako raw ang in charge sa mga naparusahang estudyante and unfortunately, kasama doon sina Martin, Ronnin at Pierce which is a disgrace in the name of the Student Head Council. They're an officer for Pete's sake pero kasama sila sa paparusahan. Tsk.
Though I am thankful na ako in-assign na in charge sa mga naparusahan at hindi si Dannica Williams. Perhaps Madame Linde had trusted me more than Dannica Williams even if she's the President.
Haven on the other hand, was still dizzy and sleepy. But the fact that she was there at the venue of the war, sangkot na siya sa gulo and that was the rule of Madame Linde. Guess what, she's that strict.
I know that she'll get mad at me if I'll disturb her. Maybe I'll just let her woke up by herself. And right now, I could imagine what will happen at the remaining students of the Building One. Guess what? Alam kong maliit lang na numero ng estudyante ang magkaklase cause most of the students had been punished and suspended.
Right now, nasa cafeteria ako. Nasa 4-Beta kasi sila and I am at the 4-Alpha section.
The cafeteria door opened kaya napatingin ako dun. Our gazes met and I immediately averted my eyes away from the person who just entered. I could sense that he's approaching me and so, I steadied my stare at the cafeteria's floor.
"Avery? Please look at me." I heard him say and I could sense that he had already seated at the chair across mine at this booth and that means that he's in front of me.
"Just talk. I'll listen." I said quietly and I am thankful na maliit lang ang mga estudyanteng nandito kaya paniguradong maririnig niya ang sinabi ko.
"I'd heard that you'd been called by Madame Linde at her office." He said. "What did you two talked about?"
I lifted up my gaze and I looked at him. I stared deeply into Martin's eyes, hoping that he could somewhat read the emotions in my eyes because right now, I am just furious about him. I am deeply mad at him because he had been at the gang war. I don't care if he's one of the students who had been punished by Madame Linde. It's just that I cared about him, I deeply am. I know how bloody a gang war could happen especially now that Dice Portman, the leader of the Lethal Sinners, had come back to Gunderson High. The students here always want to have fights that were so bloody and it's just lucky for him to get out of that crappy gang war unscathed.
"Madame Linde had put me in charge. I'll be the one to report the progress or any problems to those students who had been punished, including you." I said.
"How about Haven? Are you going to help her with her task?" He asked.
"As much as I wanted to since the gymnasium is so big and spacious, I just couldn't do that. Madame Linde is so strict and you know that." I said.
He just nodded and we fell silent.
I am thinking for words that I am going to speak next and I guess, that's what he's also doing. But in the end, he broke the silence first.
"Are you mad at me?" He asked.
Thank goodness, you had noticed! Tsk.
"No." I lied.
"You are really mad." He said.
Tsk. The one thing that I just hated about Martin is that he could read me like a transparent person. He is the only one that could do that. And because of that, I am hopeless when it comes to lies. He could always figure out if I am lying or not. I can't hide any single thing from him.
"Thank you for figuring that out." I said.
Siya naman ngayon ang hindi makapagsalita and I took that as a cue na maybe I should be the one who's going to talk and he would be the one to listen.
"I am mad at you cause I care for you. I know that I am not your mother or your siblings. We're not even lovers but to tell you what, I just really had this urge to care for you more than anyone else. Why do you have to go to that war? Sinabihan na kitang huwag mong patulan ang gang war kalaban ang Lethal Sinners cause I know that they're just teasing you cause your Master had not yet returned. You don't have enough faith with your own Master." I said, expressing what I need to vent out.
